Data Engineering Manager – London

Our client is a major, commodities focused hedge fund with a global footprint and 2000+ employees.

As a Global Data Engineering Manager, you will contribute to build and develop an enterprise data platform / related applications in a complex and demanding trading environment. This is a cutting end team of Data Scientists Engineers that produce products, insights and signals that impact trading decisions.

The role will manage a global data engineering team responsible for the ingestion, management, and provision of market data, commodity related economic data, and commercial data for use by data scientists, traders, research analysts and operators. The ideal candidate with be the Player Coach' mentality, available to get 'into the weeds' and contribute technically as well as lead.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities, Key Responsibilities:

• 7 years+ experience in relevant roles
• Financial market data ingestion, ETL / ELT pipeline development, data modelling and data provisioning
• Advanced Python & SQL
• Data quality management
• AWS data stack
• Your background will be in running a Data Engineering team at a top hedge fund or energy trader (high-bar organisation)
• BSc / MSc in Computer Science (or similar discipline) from a top university

Experience with data related to energy and metals commodities, power generation, weather data or shipping would be advantageous.

Key Responsibilities:

• Management of a global team of data engineers
• Management and ongoing development of an enterprise data platform built on AWS.
• Development of new data products and services for commercial and operational teams

Stakeholder Relationships:

• Report to Head of Data Science
• Work closely with trading technology application teams.
• Work closely with senior data scientists, data engineers, research analysts, and traders.
