    Main duties of the job

    To be part of a team that will provide a high standard, fully comprehensive, multi-skilled Cardiopulmonary Exercise testing (CPET) and prehabilitation service in a professional manner, working to National and Departmental Guidelines whilst being accountable for own actions. Effective communication skills will support the post holder as they manage the patient pathway of these high-risk patients and support the other disciplines in their activity.

    Job responsibilities

    As a Clinical Exercise Physiologist, you will play a crucial role in our multi-disciplinary prehabilitation team that works to support the Medway patients in their peri-operative pathway.

    You will communicate with patients to offer prehabilitation support, advice and help with motivation during their journey to self-improve and reduce their clinical risk of complications following surgery.

    Using CPET and Biopsychosocial interventions as the basis of risk assessment and treatment, we will create a patient-centred service that will truly improve patient lives. You will be supported by a group of dedicated Consultant Peri-op Anaesthetic Physicians and bolstered by skilled allied health professions in support of this work

    Effective communication skills will support the post holder as they manage the patient pathway of these high-risk patients and support the other disciplines in their activity.

    CPET testing will require competencies in ECG and general observations of physical parameters to monitor for ongoing pathology during the test. This will help support our consultants to ensure the safe delivery of the testing process. Guided by these CPET results, the post holder will have an expertise in creating personalised exercise prescriptions and Nutritional support. The successful candidate will work with other specialist members of the team to achieve the best possible outcome for the patients.

    An interest in teaching, quality improvement are essential parts of this job.

    The successful candidate will be supported for POETTS accreditation and other CPD courses based on successful appraisal outcome.

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • BSc in sport and exercoise physiology or equivalant
  • Evidence of on-going professional development
  • Evidence of further study or courses in relation to the topic
  • Knowledge

  • To provide all skills in line with the recognised Professional Code of Practice (BASES)
  • Commit to maintaining ALS/ILS training
  • Experience

  • Previous experience working in acute NHS/Private sector
