    Job summary

    We are looking for an enthusiastic, positive and motivatedRadiographer with recent, comprehensive experience in MR Imaging (minimum of 2years). You will be working within a team delivering a countywide MRI servicewithin Worcestershire Acute Hospital Trust.

    The county is a beautiful base with great links out to therest of the Midlands, Wales and the South West , its not as far as you maythink The MR service consists of 3 sites the Worcester Royal Hospital, theAlexandra Hospital and the Kidderminster Treatment Centre. All are supported byexcellent travel links .

    Rotation between these sites offers an extensive range ofMRI examinations including Cardiac, Breast, Gynae, Urology and Paediatric MRI.Our current MR Scanner configuration includes Siemens Avanto, Siemens Altea andPhilips Ingenia systems.

    You will be part of a dedicated team delivering anddeveloping the MRI service. A flexible and dynamic approach to working will berequired.

    Our goal is to provide high quality MR Imaging with thefocus on patient care and safety whilst professionally developing our radiographers.

    We offer both an in-patient and out-patient service across a7-day week. You will be expected to participate in the MRI out of hours service whichincludes weekend cover and regular extended days.

    Job responsibilities

    As a band 6Radiographer at Worcestershire Acute Hospital Trust (WAHT), there is anexpectation that you will use your experience and knowledge to support both thestaff and service users where appropriate. This also includes any modalityleads, site leads and senior managers.

    As such youwill be expected to:

    Key tasksand responsibilities

    Clinical andService Provision

    Provide aspecialist clinical service and advice in a variety of clinical settings anddisciplines for staff, patients and carers.

    Effectivelyliaise with multidisciplinary colleagues, patients and carers as required.

    Triagereferrals from a variety of sources/ manage clinical priorities according toagreed protocols, working practices and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

    Can workautonomously as an expert practitioner within the specialty, deliveringindividualised direct patient care.

    Can work withina team and where required, lead a small specialty team in order to delivereffective direct patient care.

    Maintain up todate clinical competence and the highest professional standards.

    Practice withina risk-benefit framework, having regard for the MRI Local rules and safetymeasures.

    Where required,ensure that all generated images are appropriately and correctly labelled inline with trust requirements.

    Whereappropriate, assess patients and make reasoned decisions to initiate, continue,modify, suspend or cease imaging examinations, advising others in complexsituations. This may include deciding on the appropriateness and suitability ofspecific exams considering physical and psychological parameters.

    Where there isa requirement, supply, administer medicines within the legal framework andassociated Trust Patient Group Directives (PGDs).

    Utiliseadvanced knowledge and skills relating to the speciality to provide specialistadvice to other members of the multidisciplinary team on the basis of imagequality and clinical evaluation / reporting.

    Provide aseamless, high quality service from referral through to justification,authorisation, imaging and where appropriate clinical evaluation (reporting).

    Support seniormanagers in the development and maintenance of referral guidelines and policiesfor the service as required.

    Communicateappropriately with patients and their carers, making reports if appropriate andliaising as required with medical staff and other members of themultidisciplinary team both verbally and/or in writing as required.

    Participate inthe active engagement of service users through patient and family feedback,user groups and support groups when required.

    Useprofessional judgement to act as an advocate for patients to ensure a patientfocused approach to the delivery of care. Support and enable patients andcarers to make informed decisions relating to their examination, interventionand management. Escalate any concerns via the radiographic / professionalstructure as required.

    To ensure thatagreed Quality Standards for Imaging (QSI) services are met in accordance withnational and local performance KPIs as required.

    Report andraise concerns related to Safeguarding, accessing advice and support asrequired being conversant with Trust policies for safeguarding including theassessment of mental Capacity, and consideration of Deprivation of LibertySafeguards(DOLS) and the application of the principles of Prevent (counterterrorism awareness).

    Ensureeffective and accurate verbal or written handover of patients betweenhealthcare professionals.

    Ensure thathigh standards of all documentation are maintained, with accurate, complete andup-to-date information regarding patient care are kept in accordance with Trustand Directorate standards and processes.

    Monitor thequality and standard of care provided by members of the team and staff inclinical areas. Identifying any skills or training gaps and escalating to theappropriate service Leads or relevant line managers.

    Where arequirement is identified, undertake training to develop further advancedclinical practice roles required by the service in order ensure we continue toprovide a high standard of patient care.

    To work withinthe Health & Care Professions Councils Standards of Proficiency -Radiographers and Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics.

    Where requiredparticipate in rosters that incorporate extended 7 day working and work ondifferent sites in accordance with service needs.

    Ensure that allequipment belonging to and found within Radiology is operated safely. Reportand stop the use of equipment where there is any risk to patient, staff oritself.

    Report anydefects, malfunctions or faults at the earliest opportunity to the relevantsite service lead Record all actions taken with respect to such equipment.

    Ensure themaintenance of safe, clean and tidy working environments, particularly theadherence of infection control procedures and promote and ensure the same amongall staff.

    Expected toparticipate in role expansion where required.

    ProfessionalLeadership and Management

    To safely andefficiently organise and prioritise workload in a departmental section or area,taking into account the patients clinical condition and referral clinicalinformation. Where appropriate, to lead, supervise, advise, support and trainRadiographers, assistant practitioners, Radiology Department Assistants,apprentices, students working in the same departmental area/section.

    To supportsenior leads in the management of staff sickness, where appropriate to includereceiving of calls, organising required cover, sickness reviews and referralsto occupational health as required.

    To organise andprioritise the daily workload and all aspects of imaging examinations asappropriate, taking into account the demands on the service and maintainingefficiency.

    To support onthe implementation and training of new techniques and equipment whilst ensuringthat consistent competencies are achieved and documented in the appropriateway.

    Support withand maintain a robust training plan to support countywide working.

    Education

    Maintain skillsin all areas of Trust mandatory training by attending lectures and trainingsessions on manual handling, adult and paediatric resuscitation, fire andsecurity and data protection.

    Act as anexpert specialist educational resource for clinical staff, patients, and carersby providing formal and informal education where required.

    Promote anddevelop a positive learning environment throughout the Trust.

    Act as mentor /assessor to staff members and students as required, providing educationaladvice and support.

    Audit andResearch

    Lead onindividual audit projects as required by the Radiology service, involvingcollating, analysing and reporting on results of the audit process.

    Participate inresearch projects as required, disseminating and ensuring utilisation ofresearch results to change practice.

    Person Specification

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • Diploma of the College of Radiographers or degree accepted for registration as a radiographer with the HCPC State registration with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC)
  • Desirable

  • Post Graduate Certificate in MRI SOR IV Certificate
  • Experience

    Essential

  • Extensive clinical experience in MRI minimum of 2 years. Experience should be recent and comprehensive.
  • Experience in performing Quality Assurance.
  • Experience in organising self and others, taking initiative and working without supervision.
  • Desirable

  • Experience in operating Siemens and/or Philips MRI systems.
  • Experience and awareness of change within Radiology
  • Knowledge

    Essential

  • To understand and demonstrate a working knowledge of MHRA guidelines in relation to MRI safety.

  • Good awareness of current National NHS priorities
