We have a fantastic opportunity for a
Permanent
Principal Environmentalist to join our
Rail Delivery account in
Manchester.


Transpennine Amey is working in partnership with Network Rail on the Transpennine route upgrade project since 2018, with an increased focus on providing reliable, frequent, faster, and greener railways to the North of England.

Covering 76 miles of railway between Manchester, Leeds, York, Selby and onto Humberside, we lay the foundations, covering upgrades to civils, track, railway systems and electrification to the west of Leeds.

By completing such works, we aim to support Network Rail with cutting carbon emissions and ensuring to deliver a smoother, more enjoyable journey to their customers.


Principal Environmentalist plays an important part in providing specialist support to the projects on all aspects of environmental compliance.


The standard hours of work are 37.5 hours per week.


You will be responsible for:


  • Create and monitor the implementation of environmental plans, strategies, standards, procedures and systems, regulations and statutory legislation across the project, in line with NOP's corporate requirements.
  • Support the Environment/Delivery teams and provide the focus of environmental management for the project, supporting staff with advice and guidance on environmental issues.
  • Support the embedding of the Environment and Social Management Plan, Environment and Social Risk Assessment, Site Waste Management Plans and Community Impact Assessments
  • Support the measurement and certification of the project's performance against environmental legislation, standards, objectives and KPI'S/KRA's.
  • Assist the construction teams for the project works in the review of Work Package Plans, Task Briefing Sheets, commissioning plans and other project documentation for any key environmental works.
  • Provide input to the education and training of the staff to monitor that they are fully aware of their responsibilities for the environment and EMS.
  • Undertake appropriate liaison with the statutory bodies (EA and Canal & Trust etc) regarding upcoming works to ensure all parties are clear on schedule dates and manage any change/issues.
  • Support the preparation of environmental impact assessments and Environmental Statements to meet planning, Transport and Works Order and other environmental consent requirements.
  • Undertake, or arrange for others to undertake, suitable inspections/ audits for the project works being managed in regard to environment & sustainability
  • Responsible for supporting the integration and estimating team to ensure the environmental & sustainability budget for GRIP 48 contracts is defined and accurate.
  • Supporting the embedding and evidence collection for CEEQUAL to ensure the project fulfils its sustainability and CEEQUAL requirements
  • Ensure all environmental notices are issued in advance of works and compliance is adhered to throughout the project
  • To support the Principal Environmental Manager and the Alliance in delivering the works in the project, ensuring that the quality of the works meets the VFM Statement and that the Key Result Areas where set are met or exceeded.

What makes this role unique is **working as part of the environmental team, who will be the central point to co-ordinate all environmental activities on the projects by building strong and effective relationships with the integration and the delivery teams to ensure environmental activities are considered in design & construction and to ensure compliance to NR/L2/ENV/015 'Environment and Social Minimum Requirements' and all TRU Sustainability Requirements.

Essential:


  • Relevant and successful environmental management experience in a rail environment such as embedding NR/L2/ENV/015 'Environment and Social Minimum Requirements' into design and construction projects.
  • Relevant and successful experience of engaging with statutory bodies such as the Environment Agency.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations
  • Experience of undertaking, or arranging suitable inspections/ audits for the project work in relation to environmental compliance
  • Individual who can consistently demonstrate alliance behaviours and a positive approach to tasks.
