This is an exciting opportunity for a senior nursing leader to join a team of motivated practitioners supporting the quality, safety, and best practice on our adult acute inpatient wards in SHSC.

We are keen to welcome dynamic, dedicated nurses who have an interest in service development, quality improvement and a passion to ensure our service users receive high quality, responsive, compassionate care.


The matron role will work over 3 adult acute wards and 1 PICU, providing support, clinical leadership, and best practice guidance to teams.


The individual will work in close collaboration with the Senior Matron, Head of Nursing, and ward leadership teams to ensure that the clinical priorities and standards of care are achieved as we move through these exciting times of change.


In collaboration with the Senior Matron the post holder will deliver on the Matron's 10 key Responsibilities along with providing clinical and line management supervision to the Senior Nurse Practitioners.

Providing consistent visibility and presence, being accessible and receptive to the needs of the service, the clinical teams, and the patient population.

To lead, direct and develop clinical practice via best practice guidance and through involvement, implementation and oversight of quality improvement agenda's that direct and influence the progression of acute/PICU care.

Leading by example & securing and assuring the highest standard of clinical care.

Responsible for overseeing the clinical care of a group of inpatient wards, providing senior nursing leadership and guidance in support of the clinical teams.

Working in collaboration with the Senior Matron the post holder will deliver on the Matron's 10 Key Responsibilities;
Leading by example

Making sure patients get quality care

Ensuring staffing is appropriate to patient needs

Empowering nurses to take on a wider range of clinical tasks

Improving hospital cleanliness

Ensuring patients' nutritional needs are met

Making sure patients are treated with respect

Preventing hospital-acquired infection

Resolving problems for patients and their relatives by building closer relationships
