- Plan, direct and control production so that production and quality targets are met alongside safety and environmental standards.
- Full responsibility for setting and maintaining a broad range of budgets within the designated business unit, with reference to overtime, PPE and training requirements.
- Ensure that the Business Unit profitably delivers against all agreed operational targets, and contractual conditions on each contract.
- Participate in developing short, medium and long-term plans to achieve contract requirements in a cost-effective manner.
- Develop KPIs related to the contract deliverables to monitor and control the progress of the targets, driving business improvement.
- Monitor and manage the operational working processes, including planning, reporting, and working patterns.
- Establish effective business planning and reporting processes, across all aspects of the business unit to ensure right first time and on-time delivery. (Project planning tools, operational reporting mechanisms, project performance management measures and financial performance).
- Collaborate with others to improve profitability through the implementation of continuous improvement tools and techniques.
- Anticipate and address customer issues; implementing solutions that maintain good relations and high service standards.
- Collaborate with other teams to ensure production costs remain within budget.
- Maintain knowledge of customers' businesses and plans together with wide rail industry strategic and regulatory developments.
- Drive improved individual performance to ensure all employees are competent to carry out safety critical work and identify and ensure future training needs for business unit are met.
- Supply operational information and reports on business unit's performance at the weekly review meetings and as required by the Performance Manager.
- Input to the weekly and monthly business reviews, including operational performance, project reporting and overhead levels.
- Demonstrated success in operational management roles.
- Has made significant change or transformation in the running of operations.
- Relevant experience in railway, engineering, safety critical, or manufacturing environments.
- Proficiency in managing budgets and controlling costs.
- Strong commercial awareness.
- Experience leading change programs to enhance business performance.
- Familiarity with logistics, product flow management, capacity planning, and scheduling.
- Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies.
- High numeracy skills and familiarity with project accounting.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, for internal and external stakeholders.
- Proficiency in computer applications such as MS Office and Project Management tools.
- Excellent customer and supplier relationship management abilities.
- Ability to innovate and problem-solve, meeting deadlines and targets.
- Strong interpersonal skills, collaborative teamwork, and confidence in communication.
