    Default job background
    £30,000 - £35,000
    Description

We founded Nium, a nanotechnology company, at Carbon13, the Venture Builder for the Climate Emergency, in the summer 2022 to eliminate greenhouse gases at a massive scale: at least 10,000,000 tonnes CO2e a year by 2030 and exponentially thereafter.

You can find out more about the Nium team and technologies here and on our website

We are looking for a hands-on Graduate Engineer with an interest in first-of-a-kind climate technology to join the team at Milton Park and partner sites.

The role is primarily related to the development and deployment of a pilot-scale demonstration project, reporting into our Lead Process Engineer.

Take the lead on construction and support the installation of our green ammonia pilot plant systems, both within our laboratory facility and at partner site(s), with support from the Lead Process Engineer.

Support equipment selection, procurement and layout, in consultation with the engineering team.

Input into mechanical design and engineering, with a focus on creating engineering drawings using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).

Participate in design reviews, FATs/SATs, and assist the Lead Process Engineer with commissioning and plant start-up activities.
Develop relevant project documentation including manuals, reports and protocols
Maintain a safe working environment within all our facilities, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and industry best-practice.
Work closely with cross functional teams and third-party contractors, to achieve project goals and milestones.
Communicate effectively with stakeholders to provide regular updates on project progress, challenges and opportunities.

Degree-level qualification in an engineering discipline with an interest in the construction and development of first-of-a-kind systems
Hands-on experience within an engineering environment
A passion for our climate-focused mission: decarbonised and decentralised ammonia production
Ability to communicate effectively within diverse teams in a project setting
    A valid UK driving licence
Be willing and able to travel periodically, both domestically and internationally, to support plant installation and commissioning activities.

    Mechanical or Mechatronics engineering background
Ability to interpret a range of engineering drawings such as P&IDs, GAs and wiring diagrams
Work at Milton Park with access to world-leading labs and extensive facilities
~ Work with the Inventor and have real and immediate input to the project
~ 30 Days Annual Leave and your birthday off
~ Flexible working environment depending on your needs and project requirements.
~ Opportunities to travel both domestically and internationally, depending on final project locations

We have a patent pending nano-catalyst and scale up technology for ammonia synthesis, currently the most polluting chemical industrial process on our planet.

We have access to the best labs in the UK and assembled an experienced international team and we have cutting edge facilities to take our technology to scale.

We have won the support of Octopus Ventures, The BMW Foundation, Undaunted The Greenhouse at Imperial College. We are a young startup, with all the chaos, uncertainty, potential and adventure that brings. We want this company to be the making of you, we want you to help to make this company.

We have a healthy disdain for hierarchy and bureaucracy and a healthy respect for your mental health and home life.

We give you everything you need to succeed, including access to the best equipment and facilities, in our R&D centre and purpose built labs, £1000 annual professional development budget, up to 8% matched pension contributions, hybrid working, a laptop, brand new facilities, compassionate and encouraging managers and space to do the most rewarding work of your life.

    We are three male founders.

We believe diversity of thought, healthy conflict and challenging status quo are hallmarks of a disruptive business, the kind that will eliminate emissions at scale.
