Ever thought about a career in an Operating Theatre?


We are looking to recruit Theatre Support Assistants to become part of the team at the Glenfield Hospital, Leicester Royal Infirmary, Leicester General theatres and the brand new East Midlands Elective Care Hub.

These are busy operating theatres covering multiple specialities such as; cardiac, vascular, orthopaedics, paediatric, general and emergency surgery as just a few examples.

For those wanting to develop further, there are a variety of exciting opportunities


We have opportunities for optional additional training to become aTheatre Associate Practitioner(Band 3), whereby you will be able to independently scrub for select surgeries.

We also haveStudent Operating Department Practitioner Apprenticeships Both of which come with comprehensive education and training, with no financial cost.

You will be expected to attend the Trust's Theatre Support Assistant Programme. The next program is 26/06/23 and successful applicants need to be available to start on this date.

About the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust: )


The post holder will support the registered Theatre Practitioners within the peri-operative environment, performing duties within the operating theatre and assisting the MDT.

Your role is to support the theatre team, and you will be directly involved in patient care.


Daily duties will involve:

  • Set up theatres and clean down post procedures
  • Clean theatres and stock up surgical equipment
  • Assist in scrub count
  • Move and handle patients and goods in ways that promote the health of the patient, healthcare team and self
  • Assist with the collection of simple data
The role involves shift work patterns, depending upon speciality. Shifts can include 8am - 8pm, 8am - 6pm, midday - 10pm, on-call and night shifts 8pm - 8am
