Northumbria Healthcare Facilities Management Ltd are seeking to recruit a highly motivated and enthusiastic Multi-Skilled Cratsperson.

Working with the Northern and Yorkshire Assessment Centre, the 4 year fixed term apprenticeship would suit applicants who are committed to learning and have the practical and dexterity skills required to successfully complete this demanding yet rewarding apprenticeship.

Working across hospital sites, you will gain experience in the Diagnosing, fault finding, and repair faults on range of plant, equipment and services.


Attending further education college, you will develop your skills in using basic hand skills and performing engineering operations, advancing to complete a HNC qualification in an Engineering Discipline.


Multi-Skilled Craftsperson's are responsible for the day to day Diagnosing, fault finding, and repair faults on range of plant, equipment and services.

A keen interest in Engineering is essential

You must have good basic IT skills in order to maintain accurate equipment records.


The Multi-Skilled Estates team are a highly cohesive team of around 15 staff, skilled in the maintenance and repair of a wide range of plant, equipment and services.


The team cover all hospitals and community premises within the West Northumbria Healthcare area, including Hexham Hospital, Haltwhistle Hospital and Haydon Bridge Health Centre.

Working Monday to Friday, the team also provide emergency out of hours cover 24/7 to provide support to clinical colleagues.

Carry out, under supervision, the following aspects, in order to meet training requirements for framework:

  • Diagnose, fault find, and repair faults on range of plant, equipment and services
  • Manufacture, assemble, erect, install and test new work including minor improvements ensuring compliance with Trust and Apprentice safety standards and procedures
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance to statutory requirements
  • Carry out statutory inspections and testing of plant, equipment and services to ensure their safe operation and meet current standards
  • Use all relevant tools and equipment as necessary
  • Plan and evaluate and order materials for the necessary job requisitions
  • Communicate with others on aspects of their work, including any problems encountered
  • Make arrangements to attend wards / departments for access or availability of room / area / equipment to carry out work as requested
  • Participate in systems of work and complete all necessary paperwork to Statutory and Trust requirements
  • Follow drawings, specifications under the necessary guidance of others
  • Follow Trust and statutory requirements regarding health and safety at work
