Further Information:

Peterborough is one of the UK's fastest growing and successful cities.

Steeped in history, it is a magnet for engineering talent and trades well upon its connection to strategic infrastructure with easy access to London, the Midlands, and the North.

Its population today is young and multiculturally diverse, with more than 150 languages spoken. The city has responded imaginatively and sustainably to the changing dynamics this has brought about.

Peterborough was selected by Government as one of the first five national Integration Areas due to the understanding we have of our communities.

Within the Council, the Finance Team has recently been restructured, to ensure we have capacity, flexibility and resilience to provide finance support and advice to our Council Services.

Two Service Directors (deputy s.151 officers) overseeing Financial Management and Corporate Finance have recently been appointed and are driving a Finance Transformation programme.

This is specifically focussed on building on the successful improvement journey the Council has already been on, one which has seen us shortlisted for the 'LGC most improved Council of the year award for 2023'.

Our new finance team structure has been developed with a primary focus on delivering:

  • A finance service which designed for sustainability, meaning it is able to continue supporting and driving the financial improvement programme.
  • Resilience within the function which allows us to adapt quickly and flex our resources to the differing demands across the function.
  • A service which promotes development, training and opportunities.
This role is based in the technical and year-end team. The role will be fast-paced at times but with the flexibility to make the role your own.

It will support the Chief Accountant but as it is a non-managerial post it has the flexibility to allow the time to develop and deliver sound business options.

This really is an exciting time to be joining us and there are a number of opportunities available, at varying levels to enable us to complete our team.

If you are ambitious, driven and motivated to make a difference, by supporting the services delivered to Peterborough residents please apply.

We are proud to serve the diverse communities of Cambridgeshire/Peterborough and want our workforce to reflect this diversity, which we believe is beneficial for our employees, the organisation and the communities we serve.
