The role:

This role sits within the recently rebranded Conduct and Underwriting Controls team within the UK Insurance Operations function.

This team works with key stakeholders in the business to ensure appropriate operation of underwriting controls, on-going monitoring of third party delegated authorities, and the appropriate handlingand management of customer complaints and conduct.

The team is based both on and off shore, with administrative duties undertaken by our offshore partners.

This is a small and nimble team, who are responsive to business needs, and have a cumulative skillset that enables us to work with the business to develop innovative solutions to distribution challenges.


To work in a general role in this multi-functional team, primarily supporting underwriting controls activities for Lloyd's and UK business, through monitoring and reporting on underwriting activities against authorities given.

This role provides an opportunity to develop broad technical skills in a number of different areas.

There will be a primary focus on embedding the existing underwriting controls within the first line team, aswell as taking the lead in organising independent auditsof Aspen's Lloyd's underwriting.


Key accountabilities:


  • To coordinate and deliver the monthly and annual underwriting controls activities for Aspen UK Insurance, supported by the department Head.
  • To operate according to the underwriting controls and delegated authority approved processes.
  • Coordination of team reporting.
  • To provide day to day support for the underwriting controls, delegated authority and ELTO processes to ensure timely completion of them.
  • Analysis of the Underwriting Controls outcomes, and responsibility for holding appropriate records and making escalations.
  • Coordination of Underwriting Controls output, including investigation and liaison with underwriting teams.
  • Query management and liaison with offshore team members in completion of delegated authority administration.
  • Collaboration with team members, and working with the business and its third parties in a positive way.

Skills & experience:


  • Familiarity with Lloyd's market operations processes.
  • Experience of working with a remote team.
  • Coordination of reports for review with stakeholders.
  • A collaborative approach to working.
  • A keen eye for detail and accuracy, and the ability to navigate detailed reports and summarise the key information for management.
  • Strong communication skills, some experience of internal and external stakeholder.
  • Progression towards ACII preferred, or a willingness to undertake study when in role.
  • Understanding of business etiquette and London Insurance Market.
  • Minimum 2+ years in the London Insurance Market, in an operational, reporting or support role.
