Female Youth Worker


Job Role:


We are recruiting a female youth worker to be an active part of our youth work team developing and delivering programs for girls between the ages of 11-18 in the Teesside area.

You will run weekly sessions with an increase in activity during school holidays. This role will include facilitating sessions, mentoring, safeguarding and offering support to young people.


Accountable to Senior Pastors

Salary £9,009 per annum


Hours - 11 hours per week _(term time) _- 30 hours per week _(school holidays) _

Contract Length 12 months fixed term _(continuation of role is funding dependant)_

Closing Date 12th September 2023


Location -Teesside Vineyard Church, Saint Luke's Church, Thornaby, Stockton on Tees, TS17 7HB


Overview of Role:


  • To develop and deliver programmes for girls between the ages of 11-18 in the Teesside area.
  • To oversee the development of new weekly outreach sessions for girls in Thornaby and other areas around Teesside.
  • To develop a programme of activities to run during the school holidays.
  • To offer support and mentoring to girls aged 111
  • Empower young people to develop their skills, confidence and life aspirations through a variety of activities.
  • To be an active member of the youth work team.
  • Supporting and helping to lead weekly sessions, including
  • Friday night Youth Group, Sports Club, Sunday morning sessions.
  • Help to plan and facilitate the annual youth camp trip 'Dreaming the Impossible'.
  • Support the Senior Youth Worker with designing and implementing a regular youth programme.
  • Engage youth in a range of ways and activities that help them mature spiritually.
  • Connecting with the wider Vineyard movement and engaging with local and national Vineyard youth initiatives such as DTI.
  • Be an active part of the pastoral team, engaging with the parents of youth.
  • To develop and support voluntary team members, delegating leadership where appropriate. This would include recruitment, training, mentoring and coaching of volunteers.
  • Engage with youth workers in local churches, schools and secular organisations with an aim of building collaboration.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with young people, including agreeing limits/boundaries for acceptable behaviour.
  • Attend regular training and development opportunities to maintain an up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding and stay informed on best practice in youth work and new youth work initiatives.
  • Ensure the safeguarding of young people is paramount.

Other Responsibilities:


  • Attend all staff meetings, away days and training as required.
  • Support with the Youth budget and spends.
  • Represent the interests of the youth in church life.
  • Willingness to take on different tasks as the role develops.
  • Play a full part as a member of the staff team, working collaboratively on shared goals and supporting wider ministries of the church as appropriate.
  • Have a proactive stance towards personal development by reading, accessing training and seeking relationship with people in the next stage of ministry.
  • Be an active member of Teesside Vineyard.

Job Competencies:


Essential

  • Be a passionate disciple of Jesus Christ, demonstrating personal growth and accountability.
  • Proven experience in working with and supporting young people.
  • Be a self-starter and able to work with mínimal supervision.
  • Strong understanding of the context and challenges that face youth from low income, inner city families.
  • Ability to work in a variety of settings with culturally diverse families and communities.
  • Politically and creatively aware and 'plugged in' to emerging youth sub-culture.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, with the ability to quickly establish positive relationships with young people and motivate them to participate in activities and events.
  • Leadership skills, with a proven track record in inspiring, building and assisting in the development of skills and talents of volunteer team members.
  • Possess qualities of both a team player and a team leader with the ability to work as part of a larger staff team.
  • An understanding of relevant child safeguarding best practice.
  • Good organisational and administration skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Able to utilise digital platforms such as Zoom to engage with young people remotely.
  • An advanced DBS check will be requested in the event of a job offer.

Desirable

  • Experience working within a school context.
  • Experience in leading youth initiatives and activities.
  • Experience working alongside other denominations/ churches/ organisations/ schools in a spirit of partnership.
  • Experience in writing and implementing a curriculum for youth ministry.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through different social media platforms.
