Overview:


First Military Recruitment is working partnership with our client to recruit an Electrical Design Engineer to join their team in Bromsgrove.

The main purpose of the role will be to design and estimate projects across multiple industries and electrical services (HVAC, Building Services, Renewable Energy systems, BMS systems, HV, and control & automation) in a manner that allows the company to theirobjective of being the UK's leading niche market HVAC provider, while retaining the spiritual trinity of business intent, customer connection, and employee experience.


Duties and Responsibilities:


Design Engineering:

  • Overseeing and prepare designs and work plans, from conceptual design through detailed design packages. Primary focus is on the electrical engineering aspect; however, expect involvement in other aspects of the design process.
  • Electrical design tasks may include: Electrical load calculations, Shortcircuit and overcurrent protection calculations, Cable Calculations, Electrical Distribution System Design, Fire Alarm Systems Design, Cable Management System Design, General and EmergencyLighting design and calculations, Public Address and Voice Alarm Systems design, Control Systems Design,
  • Generation and Backup Systems Design.
  • Good Knowledge of relevant legislations, standards, regulations, guides, and good practise
  • Assist and mentor support staff in the fundamentals of Electrical design, calculations and preparation of construction documentation.
  • Develop equipment schedules and material takeoffs; prepare requests for bids for subcontractors and material vendors.
  • Prepare construction and equipment specifications, including means and methods.
  • Compare bids and recommend the selection of subcontractors and material vendors.
  • Be responsible for completing, overseeing, and checking estimates throughout your team and, where appropriate, the business.
  • Dealing with enquires and understanding project specifications and requirements.
  • Issue technical queries to clients where clarification is required.
  • Being responsible for overseeing and preparing plans for commissioning.
  • Check commissioning results against designs and assist with report preparation.
  • Reviewing, understanding, and defining the scope of works for electrical instrumentation, control design and installation.
  • Managing the estimate of a project, ensure all items are included to the correct client scope in accordance with the project specific contract this will include ensuring that the opening profit margin is in excess of the agreed minimum business % value.
  • Preparing cost estimates and check those generated by others.
  • Liaise with Sales Managers and assist with initial conceptual design.
  • Assisting colleagues within the organisation with design related queries.
  • Check the electrical drawings before internal sign off.
  • Assisting in the procurement of specialist packages.
  • Review and prepare where needed Controls Philosophy's and Technical Submissions.
  • Attend project commencement / project review meetings when required.
  • Provide toolbox type talks to other members of the design and delivery teams to improve knowledge base internally.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and innovation in your specialist area.

Project Management:

  • Attending site as part of the project team for design, commissioning, and project progress meetings.
  • Managing tasks as required to ensure work is completed on time and on budget, with a high degree of internal and external client satisfaction.

Skills and Experience [extract]:


  • Previous experience working in the Utilities or Construction industry for 10 years+.
  • Strong Industrial HVAC knowledge.
  • Odour control knowledge (within Industrial teams).
  • Water Industry Standards (WIMES).
  • EUSR Clean Water Hygiene [highly desirable].
  • Construction Industry knowledge.
  • Suitable CSCS card.
  • Working towards or maintaining Chartered Engineer status.
  • Competency in Leadership & Management demonstrated through ILM Level 5 Award [highly desirable].
  • Competency as a Project Manager demonstrated through APM Project Professionals Qualification [highly desirable]
  • GCSE or equivalent in Maths, English, Science, Design Technology + 3 others Grade C or above or equivalent [essential].
  • BS/BEng or higher Electrical Engineering degree [highly desirable].
  • Autocad 2D Lvl 2 or above.
  • Able to complete & review all relevant calculations, tasks, and documents.
  • Technical competency demonstrated through relevant degree.
  • Advanced at using relevant industry software (AMTECH, Dialux, AutoCAD).
  • Excellent Communicator (oral & written) to all audiences.
  • Team Player value humility over hubris.
