Description
The general Histology workload includes a wide range of biopsy types and resection specimens and post is for a general Pathologist at associate specialist grade but there is support for specialised reporting in Skin, Breast and GI pathology aided by Digital pathology; The digital pathology facility will also allow development of flexible and home based work.
The department has introduced Advanced Practitioners in dissection and BMS screening staff to support Consultant staff and the appointee will be involved in their training and development.
The post holder would be expected to work closely with consultants within the Trust, and with Advanced Practice BMS and other lab staff, promoting and maintaining the high quality of these services.
The basic contract is for 10 programmed activities. We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham.We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

Mortuaries are present both at University Hospital of North Durham and Darlington Memorial Hospital. The directorate provides Pathology services to the Trust and also to the general practitioners in the local area.Although we report a range of general pathology, our expertise and specialism is focused on Breast, GI, gynae, skin pathology aided by Digital pathology.
The department is supportive of all staff and we will provide an opportunity for off-site reporting and flexible working.
We have a strong training culture, with clinical histologist training every year and good experience of developing staff to support completion of trainingTeam working experience

Teaching and training for advanced practitioners and junior doctors.
IT literate in all modules in Microsoft Office
