The Job Profile

We are looking to recruit a passionate and talented Senior Commissioning Editor to continue to strategically build our strong imprint.

Working alongside the Publishing Director, Editorial Director and Editorial Assistant in managing and developing Scribner's publishing, while building your own list of critically recognised, profitable literary fiction and non-fiction within Scribner's expanding publishing programme.

The Job Role
To commission and publish a portion of the Scribner list directly, and manage some backlist.
To manage your own titles to critical path, keeping them on schedule and budget.

Be responsible for the nuts and bolts of the publishing process:

preparing costings, negotiating contracts, being the first point of call with colleagues across departments, positioning and presenting titles with enthusiasm and energy, soliciting quotes, writing copy, briefing jackets with care and creativity, providing excellent author and agent care.

You will contribute to ideas and strategy for the imprint, including backlist initiatives

  • Ideally experience in editing, acquiring and publishing literary fiction and ideally some nonfiction too.
  • A sound knowledge about the literary market, an openminded and curious reader who is not afraid to take risks with
  • Ability to manage workload efficiently, follow through on ideas, and see projects through to fruition.
  • Confidence and poise to be an ambassador and champion for Scribner both internally and externally.
  • Ability to build strong relationships across the publishing industry, both in the UK and internationally.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • An unstinting eye for detail and design.
Starting salary from £40,000
