    About

    My client is a large SMEmain contractor undertaking design and build and traditionalconstruction contracts in London and the South East, covering mostsectors including commercial, new build (including social housing andeducation), heritage and sports and leisure. They are a family ownedconstruction business, undertaking new build and refurbishmentprojects across a range of sectors in London and the South East ofEngland.

    They are looking for a well experienced SeniorEstimator/ technical estimator to join this large construction companyas they continue to grow.

    Key qualities andresponsibilities:

    Assess new tenders, checking forcompleteness and accuracy of information supplied.

    Goodknowledge of New Rules of Measurement (NRM) and Standard Method ofMeasurement 7 (SMM7), NBS Specification, more commonly used StandardForms of Contract (all JCT suite, ICE, NEC, GC Works etc).

    Goodknowledge of the Codes of Procedures for various methods of tendering.

    Good knowledge of subcontractors and suppliers, and the abilityto communicate with them to encourage quotation returns.

    Excellent taking-off skills as where quantities are required,the Senior Estimator will be required to prepare his own, generally inline with SMM7 & NRM. Please note that Builders Quantities are notused by my client.

    Use of CAD-Measure to take offquantities from drawings in DWG & PDF format.

    Ability to buildup analytical unit rates and lump sum prices for main trades(especially carpentry, brickwork and groundworks).

    Schedulingand comparisons of subcontractor and supplier quotes including theability to make adjustments and allowances for exclusions,clarifications etc, in order to compare on a like-for-like basis.

    Excellent Design & Build knowledge, including the ability tomanage Design Consultants at tender stage to ensure that theirinformation is forthcoming in good time, and that it is co-ordinatedand competitive.

    Good technical knowledge and the ability tolook beyond the information drawn or specified, and to allow for allnecessary to complete a task or element of construction this isespecially relevant to Design & Build.

    Ability to assessscaffolding requirements and to produce schedules to enable enquiriesto be sought.

    Ability to produce a full set of Preliminariesfor the project in question.

    The ability to assess TemporaryWorks requirements and where necessary, to seek advice and priceaccordingly.

    The ability to present a Tender to the Directorsof the Company at Adjudication Meetings, and to contribute towardsdiscussion regarding risk, perceived buying gains, competitive edgesor angles and margins for risk contingency and OHP.

    The abilityto communicate with the Clients Consultants after tender submission,and to deal with Bill/Contract Sum Analysis submission, preparation ofPreliminaries Breakdowns etc.

    Ability to formally hand over asecured tender to our Contracts Department, explaining the project toour Construction Department, making late changes etc to ensure that anaccurate Control Document and set of information is handed to them.

    IT Skills:

    Ability to use a computerisedestimating package (we currently use Causeway ).

    Abilityto use CAD-Measure or similar digital measurement software.

    Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Word & Excel.

    Knowledgeof Microsoft Outlook and Powerpoint.

    Ability to use databaseseffectively, including search and mail merge facilities. We use ACT
