Purpose of role:
The post holder is responsible for ensuring that all aspects of infection prevention and control are correctly governed within the Hospices.
The post holder will be primarily employed by St Raphael's Hospice and hold an honorary contract for Royal Trinity Hospice.
A new and innovative role has arisen owing to a collaboration for Infection Prevention and Control between two established South London Hospices, St Raphael's and Royal Trinity London.
St Raphaels and Royal Trinity Hospice are seeking a
Band 6 Infection Prevention and Control Lead to work
4 days working equally between the two organisations.
The role will be responsible for the development and implementation of infection control policy and resource to both clinical and non-clinical staff on both sites.
St Raphael's is a 14 bedded hospice, serving the communities of Merton and Sutton, and Royal Trinity Hospice is a 28 bedded hospice serving the communities of Wandsworth, and parts of Lambeth, Merton, Westminster, Hammersmith, Fulham, Kensington & Chelseaand Richmond.
Both Hospices provide specialist palliative and end of life care, free at the point of contact, to those with progressive life limiting conditions and the people who care for them.

Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for infection control within both St Raphael's Hospice and Royal Trinity Hospice for 2 days each per week.
- Assist in surveillance of hospital/hospice acquired infection.
- Provide advice in relation to the purchase, decontamination and/or condemning of equipment.
- Develop measures to reduce the incidence of infection;
- Act as a resource on infection control for staff throughout the Hospices, both clinical and nonclinical.
- Provide education and training across both Hospices and develop identified clinical staff as IPC resources for inhouse support.
- Investigate infection control problems and advise on followup care for persons exposed to infection.
- Outbreak management
- Identify outbreak, advise staff/patients regarding isolation, monitor and report to appropriate outside agencies.
- Instruct the multiprofessional team in standard and specific infection control procedures.
- Maintain links with Acute Trusts (St George's Hospital; St Helier Hospital) Infection Control Departments and the Occupational Health Service contracted to each Hospice to ensure that all necessary infection control measures are implemented.
- Ensure that the infection control annual audit is serviced and that results are disseminated as appropriate.
- Ensure that agreed audits are undertaken on a regular basis and policies are regularly reviewed.
- Report back to Clinical Heads of Department and other meetings as appropriate on the results of all audits.
- Meet regularly with the IPU Sister/Senior Nurses and liaise with Housekeeping/Facilities to update on infection control measures and possible risks to staff and patients.
- Maintain effective communication and liaison with patients, their families and carers, all members of the multidisciplinary team, community services and local statutory and voluntary agencies.
- Teach on all aspects of infection control as required.
- Update learning zone infection control packages.
- Liaise with other hospice infection control nurses.
- Produce an annual report and annual infection control plan
- Coordinate and chair quarterly infection control and prevention group meetings
- Recognise own learning and professional development needs.
- To undertake any other such duties or general tasks and hours of work as may reasonably be required and to work in other locations within the hospice organisation.
Person Specification
- Essential_
- Valid RN Level
- Leads by example, exemplifying the Hospices' values and behaviours
- Infection Prevention and Control qualification or course
- Palliative Care qualification i.e. ECEPC or similar (or be willing to undertake)
- Mentorship module or equivalent
- Willing to undertake further qualification
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Excellent communication skills written and verbal.
- Computer literate.
- Management skills.
- Teaching and presentation skills.
- Contemporary knowledge of evidencebased practice.
- Awareness of current issues and relevant practice guidelines in End of Life Care.
- Sound knowledge of Clinical Audit and Clinical Governance processes.
- Commitment to Continued Professional Development.
