    Reactor Island Fire Protection Technical Lead
    Derby, Warrington or Manchester/UK based – Hybrid
    We are Rolls-Royce SMR and we're doing something that's never been done before. That's a once-in-a-career opportunity for those excited by such a challenge.

    We are now recruiting Reactor Island Fire Protection Technical Lead to be involved in delivering an industry leading, cutting-edge design project for a new type of power station.


    We're seeking a Fire Protection Technical Lead for the Reactor Island.

    Reporting to an Engineering Group Lead, you will be responsible for managing the development of the fire safety strategy for Reactor Island.

    Supervising a small team of engineers to design and develop systems and controls encompassing evacuation plans, detection, suppression, alarms, compartmentalisation, and firefighting access/facilities.

    This role focuses on conventional/life fire safety however an understanding of internal hazards and nuclear fire safety requirements is also required.

    The Fire Protection Technical Lead will be a key contact in regulatory meetings.
    o Supervise and mentor a small team of fire safety engineers. Provide technical supervision, guidance and coaching to fire engineers across the design team and develop a continual improvement culture.

    Fire Safety Design
    o Develop, manage and implement a comprehensive fire safety strategy for a nuclear site.

    o Development of design solutions encompassing evacuation plans, detection, suppression, alarms, compartmentalisation, and firefighting access/facilities in accordance with industry best practice, policies and procedures whilst considering operational experience and lessons learnt to ensure a robust, low cost, high-quality design.

    o Responsible for authoring and/ or technically checking high quality outputs in the form of but not limited to:

    • Fire Safety Strategies Documents (Site or Building Level)
    • Fire Protection Basis of Design
    • Codes and Standards Suitability Analysis
    • Design documentation for fire systems (requirements, system design descriptions, P&IDs, equipment lists, equipment sizing calculations).
    Project Management

    o Develop robust plans for nuclear reactor systems design and ensure on time delivery, cost and quality is achieved for all project deliverables to align with regular progress reporting.

    o Ensure quality is maintained throughout the SMR project lifecycle by progressing through appropriate technical reviews and providing the required inputs to the main project technical review gates.

    o Manage the risks and clearly articulate these to the management team and key stakeholders to ensure they are considered during key decision making.

    o Manage technical interfaces with key stakeholders in other technical functions on the SMR project such as: Layout, Systems integration, Control & Instrumentation and Safety to ensure a coherent technical solution is achieved.
