Job Introduction


The Tunnel Survey team is employed to deliver the geospatial capabilities required to efficiently and accurately deliver the works in accordance with the contract requirements.

As part of this team, the role of a Senior Tunnel Surveyor is to manage EngineeringSurvey teams in order to efficiently implement the Survey Managers strategy for project engineering surveying whilst liaising with other project disciplines and understand the current project requirements and ensure the successful implementation of engineeringsurvey across all areas of the project.

The Senior Tunnel Surveyor reports to the Tunnel Survey Manager.


Role Responsibility

  • Oversee the daytoday management of the SCL/ TBM /Cross Passage Shift Surveyors
  • Undertake the post processing of survey data, including the reduction of sets of angles, Star*net processing and asbuilt/ Wriggle survey data.
  • Overseeing the primary and secondary tunnel control network and ensuring it adheres to the relevant SCS tunnel survey control methodology procedure.
  • Ensure the shift surveyors/engineers have accurate and the latest control network coordinates for undertaking setting out works and convergence monitoring.
  • Undertaking daily quick check TBM guidance updates.
  • Ensure asbuilt surveys of SCL are carried out and comparison reports to the SCL works with the BIM model are produced.
  • Oversee and manage the survey requirements for cross passage construction, including survey control, asbuilts and convergence monitoring.
  • Ensure Amberg Profile verification checks have been completed prior to setting out works taking place.
  • Ensure convergence monitoring is undertaken, and all data & reports are issued in a timely manner before the SRG meetings.
  • Overall management of the Amberg convergence system, ensuring it's up to date with the latest data.
  • Implementation and assignment of the Shift Surveyor schedule and roster to sufficiently cover the work activities. Ensure that staff are not exceeding shift limits and receiving sufficient rest periods in line
with H&S and SCS guidelines.

  • Carry out wriggle surveys and compare processed data with current output from the guidance system. Provide continuous asbuilt record on temporary and permanent work. Highlight any out of tolerance or anomalies to the Tunnel survey manager
  • Prepare and support gyro check surveys
  • Provide full briefing on survey documentation (RAMS, TASK briefing sheet) to new starter or visitor.
  • Manage tunnel bracket production, survey equipment stock and delivery
  • Provide cooperation and assistance to the site engineering team where required.
  • Manage the survey instrument register, survey collection, delivery and resolve instrument issues. Making sure all instrument checks are being carried out and all calibration certificates are valid.
  • Provide cooperation and assistance to the site engineering team where required.
  • Degree in Land Surveying or Engineering Surveying or ONC/B Tec in Land Surveying or Engineering Surveying or Membership of a relevant professional institution such as the ICES and extensive experience in the field of Engineering Surveying managing teamsof engineering surveyors or activities.
  • Experience of TBM/SCL tunnelling and associated works will be advantageous.
  • A willingness to working a shift pattern.
  • Extensive Engineering Survey hardware and software expertise.
  • Relevant CSCS Card and membership of CICES
  • A commitment to punctuality is required to ensure timely delivery of Engineering
