Being a Kitchen Assistant at Herefordshire Care Homes
Kitchen Assistants at Herefordshire Care Homes come from all walks of life. You may have no or mínimal experience but are keen to explore a new career in care.

If you are kind, friendly and care about the life about older people then we could have just the role for you.

Hours are between 20 per week which includes some weekends on a rota basis

Led by the Chef or Cook you'll be responsible for carrying out all washing up duties.

You'll make sure on a daily basis that deep cleaning tasks are carried out to a high standard, complying with infection control guidelines.

It's important that you respect the privacy and individual needs of the residents.

You may or may not have worked in a care home before but it is important to us that you are a caring, positive person with a strong attention to detail whilst taking pride in ensuring a clean and welcoming environment for our residents as well as families and visitors.


What you'll need
Experience of a previous Kitchen Assistant role would be useful, not necessarily.

More important though is your kind-hearted nature, your belief in teamwork and your ability to use your initiative and imagination, follow instructions and prioritise a busy workload.

Above all, you have a natural ability to help make the lives of others more fulfilling and want to work in an environment where the work can be hard, but also fun and rewarding.


Key Responsibilities

  • To assist where necessary with the daytoday working of the kitchens
  • To assist with the preparation and serving of food and drinks as instructed.
  • Washing Up duties as required.
  • To clean the kitchen as directed to meet the Local Environmental Health Department requirements to include
  • Kitchen sink, all work tops, cooker, cupboards, kitchen floor.
  • To lay the tables in the dining room ready for the meal service to include tables cloths etc.
  • To ensure all crockery, utensils and kitchen equipment are correctly stored.
  • To assist with taking meals to residents who like to eat in their room.
Any other duties as instructed by the Home Manager


Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults / Mental Capacity Act
To complete training on Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults and the Mental Capacity Act and be able to understand and implement those policies and procedures taking responsibility for reporting any safeguarding concerns to the senior person on duty or home manager


Health and Safety
As an employee of Herefordshire Care Homes post holder has a duty under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, to:

  • Take reasonable care of the health and safety of themselves and all other persons who may be affected by their acts or omissions at work.
  • Cooperate with their employer to ensure compliance with Health and Safety legislation and the Health and Safety policies and procedures of the organisation, not intentionally or recklessly interfere with, or misuse, anything provided in the interests of health, safety, or welfare, in pursuance of any of the relevant statutory provisions.

The post holder must at all times respect the confidentiality of information in line with the requirements of the Data Protection Act and the company's ISO27001 accreditation.

This includes, if required to do so, obtain, process and/or use information held on a computer in a fair and lawful way, to hold data only for the specified registered purposes and to use or disclose data only to authorised persons or organisations as instructed.
