    Job Description

    More House School, Frensham

    Chief Operating Officer (COO)

Few organisations "change lives". Even fewer "save lives".

Yet parents of boys at More House School, Frensham regularly cite that their son's education and experience at More House has been "definitely life-changing, and probably even life-saving".

Many schools "add value" and "nurture the whole child", but the parental and pupil admiration for More House and the impact it has had on their children is both humbling and very moving. It is just a pity that there can't be more young people who can benefit from this remarkable school.

More House is an exceptional, outstanding school, oversubscribed and producing remarkable, trajectory-changing experiences and outcomes for 500 boys aged 8-18. This is a cause and a school very close to my own heart. I have a nephew who has adored his time and thrived at More House, and if you've ever met a parent (or grandparent or uncle) of a child at More House, you will immediately be struck by the gratitude and appreciation which they have for the school and the impact it has had on their son, grandson or nephew and also the wider family.

The Governors and Headmaster of More House School, Frensham now seek to appoint an experienced senior leader into a new position of Chief Operating Officer to help drive More House School through this next chapter of its evolution and development as the market leader in education for pupils with learning difficulties.

The school is unable to service the growing demand for its distinctive educational provision, and the Governors have ambitious plans to expand their reach and extend their provision and excellence to more pupils in other locations, and in particular for girls.

This is the most senior non teaching role in the organisation and will be responsible for supporting the Governors and Headmaster on strategic planning across every aspect of the school's future development and also have specific responsibilities for oversight and leadership of the core support functions and teams within the school (eg Finance, Human Resources, IT Services, Estates & Facilities, Catering, Administration and Corporate Governance).

This is a varied and challenging role at the heart of a truly special community which places great weight on its three core values - Kindness, Spirit and Responsibility. The successful candidate will be a financially literate, commercially savvy, leader of diverse teams and manager of projects and change. They will demonstrate strong emotional intelligence and thrive on making a difference; they will be prepared to balance the big strategic picture with an occasional need to get into the weeds.

This is not a role for someone who enjoys predictable routine and staying in their comfort zone. It will appeal to ambitious people who relish a challenge - someone who can think and plan for the long term, yet be nimble enough to change plans and reprioritise at short notice.

We are keen to encourage candidates from diverse professional backgrounds and professional qualifications. Whilst prior experience of a leadership role within a school may be advantageous but not a requirement, an affinity with the aims, vision and purpose of More House will be essential.
