- Act as the legal lead in exposure management activity relating to legal and regulatory developments which are likely to have legal implications or provide opportunities for the UK Retail business product lines.
- Analyse & incorporate strategic product opportunities for Commercial and Personal lines from competitor insight and industry trends.
- Be responsible for the provision of expert and strategic legal advice into UK Retail product refreshes & initiatives - to include ensuring:
- effective and timely reviews of policy documentation,
- incorporation of lessons learned from Hiscox & competitor products and from approaches to coverage,
- effective collaboration with Underwriting Standards & Governance, Product Owners, and Claims underwriters
- Lead and manage the drafting and amendment of Insurance distribution agreements including TOBAs, Delegated Authority and Partnership contracts.
- Be responsible for the ongoing development & improvement of Insurance distribution templates and Policy wording templates. Person Specification: Our must-haves
- Qualified Lawyer with a background in the insurance industry either in-house or private practice
- Experience of reviewing & approving policy wordings, endorsements, policy documentation & marketing communications
- Experience in negotiating, drafting, and reviewing a range of insurance distribution agreements.
- Experience of providing legal support and advice in relation to compliance and regulatory issues
- Commercial acumen & understanding of the general insurance business environment.

Description
Leading insurer requires a Product Counsel to join its team with a requirement to be in London 2/3 days per month. The teamwork across all products and distribution channels for UK Retail business and are critical in helping to ensure that a range of insurance distribution agreements (including terms of business agreements and delegated authority agreements), and their products and the related policy documentation reflect their underwriting intention and meet regulatory compliance.
There is a varied and interesting breath of exposure across the breadth of products and distribution channels including our Speciality, Professions, Commercial and Personal Lines products and distribution channels including direct, broker, alternative distribution, and e-trade channels.
There is also opportunity to be involved in other strategic, legal, and regulatory projects in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, which gives the role holder the variety and opportunity for continuous learning and development.
