    Job summary

    Dermatology Outpatients

    Staff Nurse full/part time

    Dermatology is looking for experienced and dynamic staff nurses to work within our busy day surgery and out-patients department at Brighton General Hospital. You will be providing a high quality service for patients and clinicians.

    Experience of working in theatre, day surgery/out-patient clinics or dermatology day treatment unit is desirable but not essential. You must be able to work within a team and work hours that are flexible to meet the needs of the department.

    We welcome applications from those who currently hold a UK NMC registration. If you currently hold an overseas nursing qualification and require sponsorship we are not currently direct hiring Internationally Qualified Nurses.

    Main duties of the job

  • Adheres to the NMC code of conduct at all times.
  • To actively monitor and maintain high standards of care and to promote health education.
  • To assist patients with all aspects of care within the clinical area.
  • To assist with clinical procedures within the clinics monitor minor surgery/day surgery and nurse led clinics.
  • To be proficient at removing surgical sutures and undertaking specialised dressings.
  • To understand/apply knowledge of wound care when applying dressings.

    Job responsibilities

  • Adhere to all local standard operating procedures and policies.
  • Participate in co-ordinating the activities for the whole department area managing staff placement, ensuring safe placement of patients in the department area.
  • Organise time, equipment and staff to deliver nursing care. Delegate and assign activities and tasks appropriately, working as a team to improve overall performance.
  • Act as an advocate for the patient/client ensuring the provision of appropriate information and support services.
  • Effectively liaise with clerical staff, surgical booking staff, site management team, and other departments to allow timely management of patient throughput.
  • Participate in department meetings and other multidisciplinary meetings ensuring that concerns of patients are identified and met.
  • Ensure the health, safety and welfare of the department staff, taking action where necessary and report issues of concern to the nurse manager.

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • NMC Registered Adult Nurse (1st or 2nd level)UK
  • Teaching and assessing module 998/SLIPP
  • Desirable

  • Outpatients experience.
  • Experience of working in a theatre environment.
  • Dermatology experience
  • Patch test experience
  • Nursre educator
  • Knowledge

    Essential

  • Good standard of written and spoken English
  • Desirable

  • Evidence of teaching/assessing qualification
