An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced counsellor for children and young people for 37.5 hours per week fixed term contract for 12 months in the dedicated ophthalmic children's unit, Richard Desmond Children's Eye Centre (RDCEC) at Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

We are looking for someone with the knowledge and experience to continually develop the service.

To work within the multidisciplinary paediatric team to identify and prioritise children and young people requiring counselling support and to maintain a confidential database

To offer 1-1 counselling sessions to the identified children and young people. The number of sessions to be negotiated according to need and caseload.

To communicate with the adult with parental responsibility and obtain their agreement and consent.

To refer the children and young people to other services as necessary.


PROBATIONARY PERIOD


During the probationary period, your suitability for continued employment will be assessed and provided a satisfactory standard is achieved and maintained, your employment will be confirmed.

The probationary period may be extended

Or your employment terminated either during or at the end of probation, in line with the trust Probationary Policy.

For the duration of the probation period, the notice period will be in line with contractual obligations on either side.

Work within the established Paediatric Counselling Service and ensure that professional protocols and procedures are in place in line with trust requirements.

Assess and prioritise children and young people who require counselling according to their needs and available resources.


Provide time limited therapy and support for children and young people with ocular diseases, facial disfigurement and sight threatening conditions.

Provide time limited therapy and support for parents and other family members, where it is deemed necessary.


Facilitate communication between paediatric and adult counselling services for young people aged between 16 years and 18 years who will transition from paediatric to adult service for clinical care but who will remain with the paediatric counselling service if required until they reach 18 years of age.
