    To undertake general telephonist/switchboard duties acting as the first point of contact for our patients, visitors and staff. To be able to interact with all levels of NHS staff and service users.

    Job description

    Job responsibilities

    To operate theSwitchboard in accordance with the telecommunications operational policies andprocedures. Maintain a professional image at all times whilst working in a busyenvironment.

    To collate informationfor daily rotas, telephonists information re doctors and other clinical staffon call for and out of hours for Alexandra, Kidderminster andPrincess of Wales hospitals.

    To collate informationfor daily rotas for telephonists information re daily rotas for allnon-clinical areas re Facilities, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Endoscopy, Estatesand Tradesmen on call for the hospital, Trust properties and Mental HealthPartnership sites. Ensure all changes inrotas are recorded.

    To answer generalqueries/provide information for the general public, members of staff and makeevery effort to locate staff or patients efficiently and politely.

    To operate the bleep system on the Alexandrasite which includes daily test calls for paediatrics, obstetric and cardiacarrest teams giving out clear, precise instructions, ensuring appropriatepeople answer and the crash bleeps are working correctly. Be responsible forfast bleeping doctors, ensuring appropriate doctors respond and aclear message relayed.Be responsible for getting the Trauma Team to A & E, this includes doctors,consultants, theatre nurse and haematology.

    To operate theKidderminster bleep system via the Siemens console facility. To test daily the cardiac arrest team andeach Wednesday the Paediatric Theatre Cardiac Team ensuring the appropriateteam respond. Be responsible for sendingout cardiac arrest and paediatric arrest calls and connecting ward ordepartment to 999 for an emergency ambulance to attend.

    To keep up to date withall emergency procedures, cardiac arrests, trauma alerts, major incidents,internal alarm procedures, switchboard failure and fall back procedures andto be able to carry out the Telephonist responsible duties to all incidents.Fire procedures: Alexandra and Kidderminster hospitals and out of hours forHillcrest unit. Ascertain where the fireis, call fire brigade. Notifyappropriate people to attend the incident.Complete fire incident form and fax 2 copies to Worcester.

    To order taxis andrecord all requests for Alexandra, Worcester, Kidderminster, Princess of Wales,Mental Health Partnership hospitals and properties.

    To undertake any otherduties appropriate to the grade to cover sickness and annual leave as requestedby the Switchboard supervisor.

  • Knowledge of keyboard/ vdu screen.
  • Reception/ telephonist/ switchboard experience.
  • Ability to be flexible in working pattern.
  • Willing to attend training courses, mandatory and others relating to the post.
  • Able to work under pressure.
