The Opportunity

The Bishop of Newcastle is looking for a highly professional and experienced Personal Assistant to undertake a wide range of administrative work in support of her Episcopal responsibilities across the Diocese of Newcastle and beyond.

Based on site in Gosforth you will be part of team who contribute to the smooth running of the Bishops office.

We are delighted to support in this recruit, this role is varied and would suit someone who is keen to support the Bishop in her role of leadership, fulfilling the mission of the church in the diocese.


The Role

This role has an extensive job description that will be discussed in detail upon interview, below is an overview of the role and the duties.


  • To provide administrative and secretarial support
  • Organise, coordinate and oversee the Bishop of Newcastle's office and diary.
  • Arranging travel and events formal and informal.
  • To carry out core administrative processes affecting the Bishops Staff and the Diocese, working in close conjunction with the Diocesan Office, the Registry and the offices of the Suffragan Bishop, Archdeacons, Diocesan Safeguarding Officer and DiocesanDirector or Ordinands.
  • To ensure an efficient and welcoming system for all enquiries to the Bishop, having sight of all communications, coming into and going out of the office and, in liaison with the Bishop's Chaplain, ensuring appropriate action is taken.
  • Managing expenses, liaising with the finance team.
  • Facilitating effective communication and strong internal relationships.
  • Responding to a wide range of enquiries effectively
  • Managing the Bishops office to ensure good working practice whilst improving upon existing systems
  • Supporting with any HR issues in a confidential manner
  • Maintaining office supplies
  • Work collaboratively with the Chaplain preparing the Bishop's visits to parishes for Sunday worship

The Person
The post or PA carries considerable responsibility and is essential to the effective ministry of the Bishop. It requires integrity, organisational ability, initiative, excellent interpersonal skills with a good sense of humor.

  • Experienced in the role of PA
  • Excellent management skills
  • Experience in working with total discretion in the handling confidential material.
  • Personal resilience in working in a demanding role and dealing with highly sensitive safeguarding and disciplinary issues.
  • Ability to plan and prioritise work
  • Ability to deal tactfully and sympathetically wit the laity and clergy of the diocese
  • Willingness and ability to work flexibly and collaboratively within the small office team.
