  • This role attracts a SPOT Rate salary. SPOT Rate offers a progressive increase in pay to reflect the skills and experience of the officer. The starting SPOT Rate is SPOT rate 1 £32,772 / SPOT rate 2 £34,137. Progression to a higher spot rate is only achievable once in post. Eligibility for spot rates is determined by the requirements of the role, not the skills or capabilities of the officer occupying the role. Roles where IPP or PIP2 accreditation is essential are eligible for spot rates.

Job summary:


The National Covert Internet Targeting team (NCIT) use advanced and innovative open source techniques to conduct Covert Internet Investigations, targeting high threat Child Sexual Abuse (CSA) offenders operating on the clear and dark web.


As a Covert Internet Intelligence Officer in NCIT, you will use advanced open source intelligence to identify and attribute high threat CSA offenders online, and develop the intelligence NCIT need to enable an effective operational response to their crimes.

You will also be required to conduct strategic research into emerging and existing online threats relating to CSA to enhance and support operational knowledge.

NCIT operates standard working hours from Monday to Friday. However, operational requirements mean that on occasion you will be required to be flexible about these hours.


Person specification:


The role of NCIT is to tackle high risk high harm Child Sexual Abuse (CSA) offenders on the Dark and Clear web.


NCIT G5 Officers are trained in advanced open source and Covert Internet Investigations (CII) which is utilised on a daily basis.

Officers typically spend a substantial amount of time online scanning the dark and clear web, and reviewing any intelligence which is a risk to children and therefore could assist with the targeting and identification of CSA offenders.


CII work combines the speed and efficiency of open-source intelligence with the opportunity to exploit information kept behind closed doors away from open source intelligence practitioners.

It is a challenging role and it requires a lot of resilience but can be extremely rewarding.
