    Are you an experienced Financial Controller looking for a new challenge within a dynamic and forward-thinking local authority? West Berkshire Council is seeking a Senior Financial Controller to join our Finance and Property Service, reporting to the Acting Head of Finance & Property. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in the financial management of our organisation and contribute to the delivery of high-quality services to our local community.

    As the Senior Financial Controller, you will be responsible for:

  • Leading and managing the Financial Control team, ensuring the accurate and timely production of financial information
  • Overseeing the Council's financial systems and processes, driving continuous improvement and efficiency
  • Providing expert financial advice and guidance to senior managers and budget holders
  • Monitoring and reporting on the Council's financial performance, identifying risks and opportunities
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of financial strategies and policies
  • To excel in this role, you should have:

  • A professional accountancy qualification (CCAB or equivalent)
  • Extensive experience in financial management, ideally within a public sector or local authority setting
  • Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a team
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen eye for detail
  • Sound knowledge of financial regulations, accounting standards, and budgetary control
