    The Candidate The successful candidate will have demonstratable experience in developing software at professional level, and hands-on experience in working within a structured engineering environment that includes automated test processes. Very good knowledge of Linux distributions (Debian/Ubuntu), package management and security patching is essential. You will require good knowledge of Scripting languages, preferably python, and or Bash.

    The Role As a Linux Systems Engineer within the engineering team, you will help to develop and maintain the operating system platform for the organisations simulator products based on leading-edge technology to drive the next generation of Communications products in the Positioning Technology line of business.

    Key Duties

    • Manage and maintain Linux distributions, packaging, and containerization.
    • Contribute to the development life cycle from design to implementation and validation.
    • Continuous Delivery and Integration through quality control processes.
    • Produce clear documentation and status reports.
    • Connect with other functional areas (eg PMO, DevOps) within the organization to drive technical solutions.
    • Contribute innovative solutions or ideas.

    Requirements

    • Bachelors degree in computer science or information technology, or a similar discipline such as mathematics or physics, from an accredited university, or equivalent work experience.
    • Very good knowledge of Linux distributions (eg Debian), package management and maintenance, security patching, and networking.
    • Good knowledge of Scripting languages (eg Bash, Python).
    • VM operation and maintenance.
    • System hardening (eg CYBOK/Cyber essentials/OWASP compliance)
    • Optimizing Linux-based operating systems for performance.
    • Product release management and documentation.
    • Knowledge of configuration management tools and software version control.
    • Demonstratable hands-on experience in working within a structured engineering environment that includes automated test processes.
    • Experience in coaching.
    • Communication skills: Articulates clear, constructive, and insightful progress and challenges.
    • Team Player: Effective contributor as part of a multi-site team.
    • Solutions focused: Excellent problem-solving skills coupled with a good aptitude to learn and innovate.
