    Job summary

    Applications are invited for the post of Paediatric Clinical Fellow . The successful applicant for this post will work alongside existing paediatric trainees on the Mid-Trent training scheme and will have all the same educational opportunities as trainees. This post has improved the educational and training opportunities by allowing rota reorganisation.

    Main duties of the job

    The purpose built Paediatric Critical Care Unit has the physical capacity to accommodate 18 children, and is staffed for 14, admitting approximately 700 patients/year.

    We are a specialist unit for Nephrology, Major trauma, Neurosurgery, Oncology, and Spinal surgery, as well as supporting patients with medical conditions. Surgical care is provided for children with complex neonatal problems, as well as neurosurgery, , general and spinal surgery. Patients are equally distributed between medical and surgical specialties. All paediatric specialties, other than cardiac surgery, are supported by PCCU.

    You will contribute to a Critical Care full shift system with out of hours cover dedicated to PICU. The average number of hours worked per week will be 48.

    About us

    The post is suitable for individuals who have completed 2 years of educationally approved SHO posts (or equivalent)(including NICU) and who wish to gain experience whilst waiting for a NTN to become available or individuals with CCST awaiting consultant posts. Applicants will preferably possess MRCPCH or equivalent.

    Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent
  • GMC registration
  • Full MRCP
  • APLS provider or instructor or equivalent

  • ETC course
  • SPRINT Course
  • Train the Trainer course
  • Experience

    Essential

  • At least 6 months experience in a UK centre (or 2 years in an international training centre) in paediatric intensive care, paediatric cardiac intensive care, anaesthetic, paediatric emergency medicine or paediatric retrieval medicine
  • Experience in Adult Intensive care medicine, adult anaesthetic, adult emergency medicine
  • Senior paediatric trainees within a UK training programme (> ST4+) wishing to do an OOP
  • Desirable

  • Trauma experience
  • Management experience
  • rota coordinator experience
  • Lead on Paediatric Retrieval Calls
  • Completed a paediatric intensive care training programme
