HancoxRead Recruitment are looking for Industrial Cemetery Operatives around the Birmingham area which is ongoing into 2023.

JOB PURPOSE

Based at Lodge Hill Cemetery and Crematorium but required to work at any of the city's cemeteries and crematoria, the post holder will work as part of a team to provide a high-quality service to the bereaved and associated agencies.

To excavate, backfilland prepare graves for interment and to perform other associated duties as required to include grounds maintenance tasks and crematoria attendant duties.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Location, preparation, shoring and excavation of graves for a set day and time. Preparation of excavated graves for interment to include provision of artificial grass mats, lower ropes, stretchers etc. Backfilling of graves after interment and tidying ofimmediate area.
To lead on funerals, oversee interments and conduct the scattering and interment of cremated remains, and to provide a full range of crematorium attendant duties as required.
To perform ground maintenance tasks not included in the grounds maintenance contract as detailed in the document 'Non-Contracted Cemetery Grounds Maintenance.
Responsible for the unlocking/locking of cemetery gates as instructed. All issues regarding cemetery/ crematorium security must be reported to the Foreperson.
Driving and operation of the following vehicles: Van / Car, Tractor, Mini Tractor and Trailer, Dumper, Excavator, Road Sweeper.
To include regular checks and maintenance.
To assist service users and visitors to cemeteries and crematoria as necessary, being sensitive to the needs of people that are bereaved or distressed.
To attend relevant training courses e.g. grounds maintenance, TEST Course and Memorial Safety Training to develop job skills. To train as a crematorium attendant and operate cremators and ancillary equipment to assist with meeting the needs of the service
To be a nominated key holder for Lodge Hill Cemetery and Crematorium.

Working hours:
The standard working week is 36.5 hours.
