    Description

    We are looking for a highly organised, enthusiastic, and motivated person to join the Schools Catering Team on a relief basis.

    As the successful candidate you will be able to assist in all areas of the kitchen to achieve the required standards including food preparation. Serve appetising meals, clean down the kitchen and dining hall and have some knowledge of Food Safety Regulations.

    You will need to:

    • Observe and comply with Hygiene and Health and Safety procedures.
    • Undertake any training considered necessary for the post at any location considered suitable by the Catering Manager.
    • Always ensure the safe and correct use of all kitchen equipment.

    You will be required to keep full and accurate entries and records in all books/forms in accordance with administrative procedures laid down by the Catering Department.

    Qualifications / Experience:

    Essential

    • Willingness to achieve other relevant qualifications
    • Ability to work as part of a team
    • A pleasant disposition and the ability to communicate effective
    • Enthusiasm to contribute to the healthy living policies of Torfaen Council
    • Ability to work additional hours at short notice

    Desirable

    • Basic Hygiene Certificate
    • Knowledge and understanding of food preparation
    • Previous experience in a catering environment

    Principal Accountabilities and Responsibilities

    • To work under the supervision of the Cook in Charge and to assist and carry out any instructions given, in the preparation, cooking and cleaning. Serving of food or clearing away, washing up or cleaning processes
    • To be prepared to work at any reasonable time of day to ensure the smooth running of the kitchen.
    • To be prepared to work additional hours as required due to absenteeism, increase in demand for meals etc.
    • To observe and comply with Hygiene and Health and Safety procedures.
    • To undertake any training considered necessary for the post at any location considered suitable by the Catering Manager, which will include the cashless catering system.
    • To observe any requirements outlined by the Torfaen Catering Quality Procedural Manual in relation to quality standards.
    • To observe Health and Safety regulations.
    • To assist with the appropriate paperwork system.
    • To ensure the dining area (tables) are cleared away afterwards.
    • To also ensure the area has been swept and spot mopped if necessary.
