    Job Description

    Working on behalf on my client, I am currently seeking an experienced business leader to work alongside the Board and oversee the day-to-day business activities of this global leader in commercial vehicle ventilation.

    As the Managing Director you will take responsibility for the overall strategic and operational success of the company, ensuring continual growth and profitability. Working alongside the board on matters including strategy, finance, and governance you will have a marvellous opportunity to use your previous experience in leading an SME business to continued growth and success.

    High Level areas of responsibility

    • Strategic planning: To develop and implement strategic plans that meet business goals and objectives created in partnership with the board of directors.
    • Operations management: To lead and oversee all operations and business activities and ensure they produce the desired results and are consistent with the overall strategy and mission of the company. This includes commercial activities, sales and marketing, production, people leadership.
    • Financial management: To responsibly oversee the company's fiscal activities including budgeting, reporting, and auditing and ensure the company's performance and financial growth whilst ensuring company assets are protected.
    • Business development: To identify and pursue growth opportunities by cultivating relationships with partners and stakeholders
    • Team leadership: To motivate and lead a high-performance team, to attract, recruit and retain required members of the company's team to support business objectives.

    Duties include are likely to include:

    • Developing existing and create future business plans to achieve the overall aims of the business.
    • Providing strong commercial business leadership in an SME environment.
    • Managing the delivery of sales and marketing goals and objectives.
    • Managing overall performance of the business, ensuring that the Board have a clear line of sight to business challenges and successes.
    • Overseeing product development, manufacture, and market entry
    • Leading the achievement of all company KPI's
    • Making operational policy decisions and provide leadership to both the Sales and Manufacturing functions.
    • Developing financial budgets and targets and ensure that these are monitored, managed, and met throughout the year managing any risks that may arise.
    • Overseeing and maintain IP within business trademarks, patents, and copyrights.
    • Overseeing the sales and marketing team's contracts and major customers, developing robust relationships
    • Overseeing quality team's targets and systems and ensure delivery of objectives.
    • Creating and managing the business continuity plan and risk register at a strategic level.
    • Managing overall team performance and development, leading by example
    • Ensuring all contractors, partners and stakeholders are managed effectively.
    • Mentoring and coaching, the team to excel within their roles.
    • Sourcing and liaising with external associates to ensure specialist services are provided and utilised when required.
    • Developing and overseeing company IT strategy
    • Ensuring contract negotiations and variations with both suppliers and customers are carried out to high standards to the company's benefit.
    • Maintaining current working practices and setting continuous improvement targets and KPIs.
    • Supporting the Board in other activities that focus on the development of the business.

    To be successful you must possess the following skills and qualifications:

    • Proven experience of leading business strategy
    • Previous experience of leading a small business
    • Previous experience of managing at a senior level across multiple areas an engineering, manufacturing, or automotive environment in a business-to-business environment
    • A strong understanding of managing company financial systems and performance management principles.
    • An in-depth knowledge of company governance and General Management best practices
    • A wide range of management and leadership skills.
    • Knowledge of IT systems including Microsoft office
    • Excellent communication, negotiation, and public speaking and presentation skills
    • Experience in managing external relationships and stakeholders and resolving customer and supplier issues.
    • Commercial experience in agreements with an excellent knowledge of IP management – used to working with commercial lawyer.
    • Strong analytical abilities and problem-solving skills that are solution focused and proven ability to drive decisions through to deliver target goals/objective.
    • Experience of or some knowledge of freight forwarding.
    • Be comfortable with working with detailed manufacturing and technical information.
    • A relevant degree in Engineering and/or Business Management would be desirable but not essential.
    • Knowledge of e-commerce and export markets would be helpful.
    • Previous experience of managing supply chains and outsourcing

    An excellent package is on offer with this role which will ideally be based in the Northeast although that is not essential, and we will consider any UK mainland base.
