    Health and Safety Manager (Rail)

    West Midlands based with UK wide travel

    Full Time permanent position, salary negotiable + competitive benefits package

    The Technical Services division encompasses Civils and Construction, Rail Operations, Signalling and Telecommunications (S&T), and Track Warning Services.     As our Health and Safety Advisor you will play a vital role working within the business to promote and encourage a positive 'Safety first' culture at all levels both within the Business and with existing and new clients.

    You will guide and support the Senior Management team in all aspects of H&S with full consideration of the Health and Safety at Work Act and all associated Regulations, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), internal Company Procedures.


    Working closely with Senior Managers and site workforce to collate H&S statistics, identify trends, analyse data and make recommendations to the Group HSQE Manager and lead on the implementation of recommendations.

    You will also be required to regularly visit operational sites based on project locations as well as visiting client offices to support projects.


    The main aim is to manage H&S processes, raise awareness and best practice in H&S operationally and to work closely with the Head of Health and Safety to agree strategy, targets, objectives and to report any areas of improvement; in addition to supporting the Directors and SMT to understand H&S trends, concerns, targets and client requirements, balancing these with supporting projects on the ground and the working arrangements of personnel to assigned to them.


    Supporting and promoting the communication and explanation of the safety strategy in order that all staff and contract workforce are fully aware of all safety expectations.

    To raise safety concerns and to agree actions to upskill workforce.

    Effectively leading on promoting the Safety Strategy to the wider workforce including to contracted staff ensuring understanding of Safety expectations.

    Championing a culture of 'improvement' by raising Safety concerns and to agree actions to upskill the workforce.

    Taking ownership of developing a programme of site visits, ensuring all sites are visited and audited (prioritise by size of project, volume of workers on site, projects involving significant risk etc), including sister offices in Cwmbran (Wales) and Doncaster.

    Carrying out inspections and deliver safety awareness briefings, stand downs and training.
    Supporting the Bid department by providing H&S data and knowledge when tendering for Projects.
    Providing professional support and knowledge of the discipline to the BID team in compiling HSQE responses in winning work.
    Supporting the Group HSQE Manager with the implementation of H&S measures.
    Building and maintaining professional relationships with clients, Principal Contractors and Industry businesses to understand safety strategies.
    Providing a single point of contact for the client to feedback on safety and competency matters

    Taking ownership of developing a programme of site visits, ensuring all sites are visited/audited, (prioritise by size of project, volume of workers on site, projects involving significant risk etc).

    Previous experience of in a H&S Advisor/Manager role within a site-based environment on Rail/construction projects is essential.

    Able to demonstrate ability to identify ways to improve performance (ideally H&S) and proactively look for ways to improve H&S performance.

    Knowledge and understanding of a Behaviour Based Safety Programme


    The successful candidate should hold a professional qualification NEBOSH Health and Safety Management for Construction Certificate (or equivalent) as a minimum and be a member of IOSH, working towards Grad IOSH.
