Description

All in a day's work
The YTL Wessex Academy has strong aspirations to create pioneering apprenticeship programmes for now, and for the future. We are an ambitious team that wants training and development to be outstanding. We don't shy away from trying new approaches.

We support apprentices to take control of their own learning and actively encourage both apprentices and line managers to provide constructive feedback to enable us to improve.

If you have a genuine passion for science and/or maths and want to develop teaching that reflects the working world and impacts and improves people confidence in their job, this is the ideal job for you.

The job
This is a brand-new position to support the learning of our in-house apprentices. Apprenticeships are open to all across the YTL Group. This role will involve teaching people of all ages. We don't expect you to be an expert in all areas.

You'll schedule and manage a cohesive and effective training programme of skills, knowledge and behaviour development that results in an increase in the competence of operators across the business.

Science in the water industry covers all three disciplines and needs to be taught at level 2 and level 3, with maths at level 2.

The Academy team have already identified the topics you'll need to deliver, but we will listen to you on how best to inspire our apprentices to love science and maths as much as you do.

Water and wastewater science. Liquids, gases, and solid states commonly found in water industry. Elements, molecules, compounds, and ions. The pH scale, acids, and alkalinity. Physical, chemical, and biological process definition. Dissolved oxygen in treatment and processes. Microbiological parameters. Chemical parameters. Aesthetic parameters.

Maths commonly used in the water and wastewater industries. S.I units. Calculations. Standard form. Measurement of distance, area, volume and flow, and unit conversion. Simple transposition of formula. Routine flow and hydraulics theories, principles, and calculations.

In an ideal world, you'll also understand the regulators within the industry and have some business acumen to be able help the apprentices understand the impact compliance has on the work they carry out.

You'll be creating and delivering high quality exciting materials, resources and assessments that reflect good pedagogy practice and meet Ofsted requirements; but what happens in the training room can be led by your knowledge and your imagination.

Alongside the delivery of knowledge, you'll be expected to carry out all the usual teaching related activities; monitoring and tracking individual performance, obtaining feedback, and providing accurate, detailed data for reporting.

The academy is passionate about quality service, and our aim is to assess provision and deliver continuous improvements to ensure high standards and significant achievement.

It's expected, once operating at full capacity you'll be in the training room four days a week; but initially you'll be given the opportunity to get to know the business and create materials, resources and assessments that meet the apprenticeship standards, match business needs, and motivate the apprentices.

The ideal person

You'll need to be the kind of person who is happy to get out into the business and really understand how this knowledge is used and applied.

You'll have all the skills associated with being a teacher/trainer along with a teaching qualification, or you will agree to complete one.

You will have:
- the ability to plan and design interesting lessons and projects using a variety of teaching methods.
- excellent organisational skills
- good communication skills to engage with a wide and diverse group of people
- the ability to inspire a positive attitude
- patience to deal with various situations
- passion to learn new things
- a drive to introduce technology into the training room
- competence in the use of various computer systems, including Office 365, specifically Excel, Outlook and interactive teaching platforms.

Why apply?
Apprenticeships at YTL Group are recognised within the industry, and nationally, as quality programmes. We want you to feel as proud of your delivery as we are of the academy.

You'll be joining a driven team that is determined to create a business led learning environment fit for the future.

We continue to promote diversity and inclusion. With that in mind, we welcome all applicants.

We are delighted to have signed the Armed Forces covenant and are a Disability Confident Employer.

Applicants who declare they have a disability or have previously served with the Armed Forces, and meet the minimum requirements for the job, will automatically be invited for an interview.
