The
Technical Ceramics business of Morgan Advanced Materials engineers high performance functional and structural ceramic materials, components and sub-assemblies to address customer-specific technical challenges.

Responsibilities:


Job Purpose:


The role is responsible for daily routine maintenance and to set up and operate a range of Universal Grinders, including NC controlled large ROBBI Uni Grinders, producing ceramic components accurately to drawings issued and to the required specification and quality, while operating safely and ethically.


This role is an exciting opportunity to join a small dynamic team, supporting the manufacture of products for the semi-conductor, healthcare and industrial industries.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • To set and operate a range of Universal Grinding Machines in accordance with Health & Safety Regulations.
  • Perform universal grinding operations on components to achieve precise dimensions, surface finish, and geometric tolerances.
  • Set up and adjust universal grinding machines, including selecting and installing appropriate grinding wheels and work supports.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions to ensure accurate grinding processes.
  • Monitor and control grinding parameters, such as grinding speed, feed rate, and coolant flow, to achieve desired results.
  • Conduct regular inspections and measurements to verify the accuracy and quality of the ground components.
  • Make necessary adjustments to the grinding process to maintain optimal performance and meet production targets.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve grindingrelated issues, such as wheel wear or surface defects
  • To produce ceramic components accurately to engineered drawings and within the production target times, ensuring scrap level's are minimum.
  • To have experience and understanding of geometric tolerances within a self inspection environment where quality and accuracy is of paramount importance as you will be working to tight tolerances.
  • To handle components carefully to ensure cleanliness and prevent contamination or damage.
  • Maintain quality and quantity with strong sense of accountability and standards.
  • Complete all relevant documentation while maintaining product traceability throughout the process.
  • To input production data accurately & correctly using the IFS system, including work instructions.
  • To learn and develop an understanding of the quality system.
  • Clean and maintain equipment and work area, (6S Principals).
  • Perform mechanical and visual inspection of ceramics using various inspection equipment.
  • Perform safety checks on every machine where certified to operate.
  • Ensure that machines are producing quality products by performing periodic checks on output.
  • Carry out basic regular and preventative maintenance procedures.
  • Must be flexible with crosstraining in other departments.
  • Conduct all tasks in a safe and efficient manner complying with all EHS related guidelines and company policies and procedures. Guidelines include but not limited to participation in required EHS training and use of proper PPE.
  • To perform various tasks and all other duties as required/assigned by the Value Stream Leader.

Qualifications:

Qualifications and Experience Requirements

  • Ideally, you will have a recognised qualification such as an Apprenticeship, HNC or BTEC in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • 2+ years' experience with Universal / Centreless Grinding.
Machines

  • Experience of NC ROBBI Uni Grinders or similar
  • Operating experience of Uni Grinding machines (eg Jones & Shipman 1300, 1307, 1311)
  • Strong knowledge of machining operations in a manufacturing setting. (Universal grinding a strength)

Additional Skills & Abilities:


  • Must be able to carry out written, oral, or diagram form instructions.
  • Intermediate math skills geometry, trigonometry "machine math".
  • Teamoriented and selfdirected.
