Description

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic BSL Teaching Assistant.

As a BSL Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with students who are deaf or hard of hearing, providing support and assistance in their learning journey.

This is a full time role starting immediately and continuing in September.

Responsibilities:

Assist the teacher in implementing educational programs and activities for students who use British Sign Language (BSL) as their primary mode of communication.
Support students in understanding and following classroom instructions, assignments, and curriculum materials through BSL interpretation.
Facilitate communication and interaction between students and teachers, ensuring a supportive learning environment.
Provide oneonone or small group support to students who require additional assistance in their studies.
Collaborate with the educational team to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students, tailoring strategies to meet their specific needs.
Assist in the preparation of learning materials and resources, adapting them as necessary to ensure accessibility for students using BSL.
Monitor students' progress and behavior, documenting observations and providing feedback to the teacher and relevant stakeholders.
Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment, promoting the social and emotional development of students.

Requirements:

L2 or higher in British Sign Language (BSL) is essential

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish rapport and effectively communicate with students, teachers, and parents/guardians.
Patience, empathy, and the ability to adapt teaching methods to meet the diverse needs and learning styles of students.
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage time effectively.
