    A prestigious client operating in the engineering / automotive / aerospace industry requires an Export Controls Consultant on a 6 month rolling contract.

    The cutting edge offices are located in Oxfordshire and this hybrid position offers 3 days of homeworking flexibility. The focus of the project will be reviewing the product portfolio and classifying goods for customs. Key Responsibilities
    • Review the existing product portfolio for classification.
    • Classify goods for customs including export commodity codes.
    • Classification of dual usage products and reviewing if an export license is required or not.
    • Liaise and work closely with business heads and technical engineers to establish positive relationships and to build processes required for export controls.
    • The regions covered for export controls include the EU, US and Australia.
    • Document the export controls and establish where each set of policies should be located; which department should take responsibility for which policy; and on updating policies.
    • Create and carry out training and awareness programmes across the business on licensing and the processes to follow regarding export controls.
    • Establish a process to record which employees are up-to-date with their training requirements, and to follow up with those who are not keeping up-to-date.
    • Provide an imports classification review of the organisations products.
    • Support the development of the compliance programme.
    Experience & Expertise
    • Strong export controls experience within the EU (any US or Australian experience is advantageous but not essential).
    • Proven experience in the classification of a full portfolio of products which include electrical, machinery and components.
    • Export control experience developed within the Aersospace, Automotive, Engineering or Manufacturing sectors is essential.
    • Export licensing experience when reviewing dual-use products.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills when communicating with technical engineers and senior management.
    • Negotiation and influencing skills, able to win hearts and minds whilst adopting a commercial approach and bring people along.
    • Open, direct communication style: accessible and approachable.
    • Confidence to be resolute in the application of export controls and to challenge commercial and business teams on this where necessary.
    • Experience in producing training materials and delivering training in a business-focused and engaging way.
    • Independent working style and the will and strength of character to ensure plans are implemented in full. Readiness to roll sleeves up wherever necessary to get the job done.
    • Ability to energise others by demonstrating passion and commitment.
