    BAM Design is recruiting a Civil Design Engineer to join the team at Breakspear Park, Hemel Hempstead.

    Full time hybrid role, Monday to Friday.

    Your mission

    You will report directly to the Associate Structural/ Principal Public Health engineers and will be expected to work alongside all other design disciplines within BAM Design to ensure a coordinated approach to building design as well as the wider BAM business units.

    • Project Planning and Design

    • Develop initial foul and storm water drainage schemes.

    • Promote Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) techniques.

    • Obtain necessary approvals from local authorities and agencies.

    • Create detailed drainage designs with calculations using specialized software.

    • Coordinate underground drainage with foundations.

    • Evaluate and optimize proposals from outside consultants.

    • Coordinate drainage features with Landscape Architect.

    • Coordinate incoming services and produce project specifications.

    • Interrogate site assessments and topographic surveys.

    • Calculate excavation cut and fill volumes .

    • Collaborate with geotechnical engineers for soil assessment.

    • Conduct swept path analysis for safe vehicle manoeuvring.

    • Utilize software for earthworks(cut and fill), pavement, and swept path analysis.

    • Implement quality control procedures for safety and accuracy.

    • Coordinate with landscape architects for site details.

    • Understand rainwater pipe design requirements.

    • Attend project meetings and liaise with construction teams.

    • Advocate knowledge sharing within project teams.

    • Ensure compliance with CDM regulations.

    Who are we looking for?


    • Engaged in Institutes professional development is desirable.

    • Minimum qualification to HNC, HND level, Degree qualified in Civil Engineering is desirable.


    • Worked on various large multidiscipline projects across sectors, especially Education and Commercial.

    • Proficient in Building Regulations and industry design standards (IOP/CIBSE/BSRIA).

    • Strong understanding of SuDS drainage techniques.

    • Ensure building systems meet legal and safety requirements.

    • Familiar with RIBA/BRSIA work stages and deliverables in the building services industry.

    • Undertaken numerous site wide cut and fill exercises to optimisation.
