The qualified Registered Nurse Associate (RNA) will work as part of a team, planning, delivering and evaluating healthcare that focuses on the direct care of patients. The role will entail carrying out specific clinical tasks and responsibilities as delegated by a registered Nurse ensuring the highest standard of care is achieved whilst supporting patients, family and carers and the multi-disciplinary team. The Registered Nurse Associate has a required level of knowledge and skill beyond that of the traditional Nursing Assistant role. The Registered Nurse Associate will be able to deliver elements of health and social care and undertake clinical skills in domains that have previously been the remit of registered professionals.

As a member of the team in this enhanced role you will support and work closely with registered nurses to deliver a high standard of care to patients in a caring and safe environment with minimal supervision. You will develop skills to assist the clinical team in the assessment, monitoring and treatment of patients by undertaking specific clinical activities, performing and accurately recording and reporting appropriate tests as per protocol, for which you will have received training and deemed competent. In addition you will undertake roles as delegated by the registered nurse in charge and will be able to care for a group of patients with minimal supervision. Care for patients will be in accordance with set treatment protocols as directed by the nursing team. As part of these roles you will work towards taking responsibility for monitoring patient progression and making any adjustments to care plans as guided within set protocols and within your scope of practice. You will work with minimal supervision as part of a team, reporting back patient information and informing the registered nurse of any problems, and recording these discussions in the appropriate documentation as agreed.
