Job Purpose:


To contribute to the achievement of overall company objectives by ensuring the plant, equipment, site services, land and buildings are maintained to standards acceptable for a factory producing Food for major multiples.

Develop a team which values and respects the contributions of all, a team which has a passion for ownership, accountability and a passion for driving improvements in the business operation for the benefit of the team and its customers.

Fully participating as a member of the manufacturing team in achievement of customer satisfaction, factory budgets, performance targets and manufacturing excellence.

To have overall responsibility for efficient operation of the utility equipment.

To manage the utilities and be the main contact with outsourcing service providers to ensure utilities are successfully delivered to site with efficient use of energy and other resources so as to meet site targets for KPI's including emissions control.


Dimensions:


  • With escalating energy and utilities costs the role manages the site utilities services to proactively drive improvement and cost savings whilst maintaining the ability to meet varying and increasing demands from production
  • To support site engineering and environmental CI teams in monitoring services utilisation so as to identify potential savings and advise on the efficient use of utilities
  • To ensure the site utilities services comply with legislative and Company ethical standards in terms of safety, food hygiene and staff management
  • Manage site utilities as to timely and corrective actions of repairs and for planned maintenance
  • With service provider, decide on daytoday utilities requirements, including consent to discharge water and effluent operation

Principal Responsibilities

Safety, Quality, Hygiene

  • Ensure when carrying out all duties that regard to own safety and that of others is always taken into account.
  • Strict adherence to all H&S work policies e.g. Lock out and Tag (Isolation of all energy sources when undertaking any work) and Use of the "Permit to Work/Enter" system.
  • Ensure purchased items conform to with legislative, moral and European directive requirements
  • Mentor & monitor service providers for compliance with legislative, moral and European directive requirements
  • Personally demonstrate safe behaviour and take responsibility for the management of health & safety of engineering staff and contractors
  • Involvement in risk assessments in service areas
  • Support a culture that enhances behavioural awareness to reduce accidents and near misses

People Management

  • Responsible for agreeing maintenance tasks
  • Identify, generate and progress engineering work requests on utilities and monitor progress
  • To be responsible for contract and Princes labour, ensuring good discipline and that factory rules are conformed to at all times.
  • Manage and motivate Team. Set and monitor targets for Teams.
  • Manage staff as a first line manager via coaching, regular appraisal (EDR), mentoring, training and leadershipbyexample, including direct responsibility for a named group of staff.
  • Ensure that the core training/competency assessment requirements of all reports including development of an annual training plan and measuring performance against this on a regular basis are completed. Ensure all training is delivered and documented.
  • Manage people via the agreed company policies and procedures. e.g. Ensure all return to work interviews are completed on the first day. Document all discussions and correspondence in relation to absence.
  • Ensuring that the site Discipline procedure is adhered to.

Operations Management

  • To have responsibility for maintenance, spare parts and efficient operation of utility equipment
  • Work in partnership with Suppliers/Contractors to ensure the utilities are successfully delivered to section; including daytoday liaison, investigate problems, explore cost options, project prioritisation, support and systems modification.
  • Conduct joint audits of service lines as described in outsourcing contract.
  • Create and implement plans enabling maintenance works to plant allowing for minimum disruption of manufacturing liaise with Planning and Production Departments
  • Complete relevant documentation / Record data in required formats
  • Reporting data to required channels including anomalies to manager
  • Undertake the training of others as required
  • Identify own training needs and with manager agree a time plan for achieving this
  • Contribute to and help implement continuous improvement, to enhance quality, safety, efficiency and waste reduction
