An exciting opportunity has arisen for a fixed term (2 year) position as the Education and Training Lead for the Central & South (C&S) Genomic Laboratory Hub (GLH).

This role was established to lead the co-ordination and delivery of Healthcare Science training across all laboratories in C&S GLH as well as to contribute to national training initiatives through the Genomic Training Academy (GTAC) and national Education and Training Lead network.

The post holder will have significant experience of Healthcare Science education, training, and assessment within the laboratory setting.

They will have proven senior leadership and educational experience to contribute to the strategic educational agenda in line with the NHSE vision for the National Genomic Medicine Service.


Externally, they will work closely and maintain relationships with key stakeholders such as the C&S Genomic Medicine Alliance (GMSA), the Workforce and Development Team in NHSE, the National School of Healthcare Science and the Royal College of Pathologists.


The Education and Training lead will be accountable for the key deliverables of the Scientist Training Programme (STP) across all C&S laboratories.

This will include supporting the creation of training and assessment materials in line with national curricula, ensuring equitable access for trainees across the GLH and a focus of trainee development and wellbeing.

They will develop and lead a consortium-led model with GLH governance structures and National School of Healthcare Science (NSHCS) accreditation.


The post holder will hold key line management responsibility for Birmingham based educational staff and GLH Practice Educators; together they will work collaboratively to monitor performance and help develop professional knowledge, skills, and practice of all staff.


The post holder will be based in Birmingham but will be required to spend a proportionate amount of time supporting each of the partner laboratories.


The Education and Training Lead for C&S GLH is accountable to the GLH Operational Directors who will provide guidance and support to the role.
