The Growth Company has an exciting opportunity for an Employment and Training Advisor to work with Salford Employ.

Salford Employ is a funded service that works with employers, skills providers, and residents of Salford.


Job purpose will be primarily concentrated on engagement within the community of Salford, raising awareness of the support and skills and work opportunities available to Salford residents.

You will be working with key partners and employers in the city and advising and supporting residents, to maximise outcomes for those residents, who are unemployed or underemployed into positive progression outcomes for example, into skills training and or quality work opportunities.


Due to contractual commitments applicants should live in the Salford Local Authority area

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake detailed discussions with client around complex business issues to understand their business challenges, making sound recommendations for appropriate actions that will lead to more sustainable business practises and mitigate risks associated with climate change
  • Raise awareness of the service through targeted marketing and outreach activities to increase the number of referrals.
  • Work to monthly set targets for referrals, attracting new residents to the service, ensuring quality and appropriate referrals.
  • Develop and implement a range of activities to generate new referrals including completing follow up calls, attending events, identifying potential referring partners within the community and making introductions.
  • Verify residents' eligibility for employment
  • Distribute promotional leaflets online and through social media
  • Complete initial assessment paperwork including documentation to check eligibility for employment as well as the initial assessments required for pre training programmes
  • Develop and maintain excellent account management relationships with customers and residents who take up the services to maintain engagement
  • Conduct professional face to face and telephone prescreening interviews with customers, depending on employer's requirements
  • Attend events to attract and register residents and communitybased partners to increase referral opportunities
  • Provide a highly efficient and customer focused recruitment and placement service, including managing speculative and/or coordinated submissions to employers
  • Ensure that learners are appropriately placed (with the right type of employer in the right job role) in line with their skills sets and employers' requirements

About You

  • Have a good understanding of the barriers faced by families with multiple barriers to employment and progression towards employment
  • Knowledge of administrative systems to record residents' progression
  • Have a warm outgoing and approachable style to build relationships and rapport with a range of organisations and residents
  • Must have excellent interpersonal and promotional skills, telephone manner, good organisational skills, and excellent IT skills
  • Have good knowledge of Salford Local Authority and its Wards
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team

Skills Required:


  • Ideally have level 3 IAG (Advice & Guidance) or working towards.
  • Work to challenging targets and key performance indicators
  • Ability to obtain information and record information accurately with high level of attention to detail.
  • Flexible approach to work including willingness to travel and working outside of office hours
  • Must have a strong interpersonal skill to deal with residents
  • Be able to organise and coordinate of a range of promotional events
