    37.5 HRS - FULL TIME

    An exciting opportunity has arisen for a self-motivated, dynamic and enthusiastic individual to join Avon 4 as a Junior Sister/ Charge Nurse at Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

    Avon 4 is a 21 bedded acute medicine ward that delivers high standards of care and support to acutely ill patients.

    You will be a highly motivated forward-thinking professional who can demonstrate the ability to lead and support staff in a proactive and effective way.     As a junior sister you will have proven managerial and organisational skills. Have experience of effectively supporting the team in delivering high quality care to patients. As a clinical role model you will have the willingness to develop the team as well as your own professional growth. You will have excellent communication skills, at least three years post registration experience and want to make a positive difference to patient experience. Main duties of the job The applicant needs to have worked in an acute medical area and gained the relevant experience at a band 5/6. The successful candidate will be able to co-ordinate and prioritize care in a busy environment.The ability to communicate effectively with all members of the multidisciplinary team, working within a well-established team of consultants, doctors and nurses. You will be supported in this post by the ward sister and team, Matron for medicine and the specialist nurses. The successful candidate ideally would have had experience in caring for patients with general medical conditions. A full training programme will be available for staff that are successful. Job description Job responsibilities To ensure the maintenance of a high standard of nursing care at all times though the effective management of staff and resources. Provide effective leadership and to act as a good role model, as well as to liaise with all members of the multi-disciplinary team and co-ordinate all aspects of care in the best interests of the patient and family To supervise junior staff and to teach qualified and unqualified staff as appropriate. Achieve and maintain competence in identified mandatory and statutory training develop and maintain clinical competencies, skills and knowledge which relate to the area of clinical practice (i.e. Venepuncture, Cannulation). Person Specification Qualifications Essential
    • RGN with current registration.
    • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
    • Evidence of management experience / training.
    • Post registration qualification or experience in the specialty.
    • NMC recognised teaching and assessing qualification.
    Desirable
    • Higher Degree
    Experience Essential
    • Experience at Band 5 within the speciality or related field.
    • Ward / Departmental management experience at Band 5 or above.
    • Ward / Department based teaching.
    • Managing clinical risk and incidents at Ward / Department level.
    Desirable
    • Clinical audit activity.
    • Risk assessment.
    • Staff appraisals and PDR formation.
    • Sickness absence / performance management.
    • Complaints handling.
    • Using Essence of Care standards.
    Skills / Knowledge Essential
    • Competent to undertake venepuncture / cannulation.
    • Experience and knowledge within the speciality or related field.
    • Clinically credible.
    • Evidence of teaching and development skills.
    • Organisation skills, Leadership skills and ability to inspire and motivate others.
    • Awareness of health and safety issues and management of them.
    • Able to prioritise.
    • Fully aware of principles of infection control.
    • Able to produce written reports and articulate concerns regarding patient care / safety issues.
    • Fully aware of the principles of clinical governance and the application of clinical governance.
    • Computer literate as appropriate to the post.
