    Job summary

    We are excited to offer a a Band 4 Occupational Therapy technician post within our acute Specialist Services team based at the University Hospital of Wales (UHW). This position will work with the Occupational Therapy teams for acute neurosurgery/ neurology, acute stroke and renal services based at the University Hospital of Wales (UHW). Some of these services are tertiary services providing assessment and rehabilitation for service users from both Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan plus our neighbouring health boards.

    In addition to the clinical role, the successful candidate will work closely with Occupational Therapy technician colleagues providing essential administrative support for the Occupational Therapy Service at UHW, including stock/equipment management plus activity data.

    Main duties of the job

    As a Band 4 Occupational Therapy Technician you will work with the Occupational Therapy team, providing person centred goal focused rehabilitation for service users with a range of complex/highly complex needs following brain injury and other multifactorial needs.

    Working together with service users to understand "what matters," you will support engagement in meaningful occupation, promoting independence and supporting opportunities for recovery. Use of strategies to support reduced cognition and communication may be required and you will be supported to develop skills and knowledge to use these with individuals, supporting engagement in activity. Rehabilitation will include upper limb interventions and you will develop knowledge and skills in techniques to support upper limb rehabilitation.

    Rehabilitation may be delivered individually or within a group and you will have the opportunity to develop group skills, delivering groups with colleagues and the wider multi professional team.

    We are looking for a motivated, dynamic and confident person with a passion for working with people. Previous experience in a therapy support worker role / working within a rehabilitation setting will support this role.

    You will receive training and development opportunities including in service training and shadowing opportunities, supervision and support in this role.

    The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
