  • Fixed term for 3 yearsWe are looking for a Senior Lecturer in Midwifery and Global Health, to join our Centre for Childbirth, Women's, and Newborn Health (CWNH).


We are seeking an individual with an emerging international reputation in Maternal and Newborn Health research, passionate about making a tangible difference on a global platform.

This pivotal role encompasses three core areas of institutional responsibility:1.


Contribution to the NIHR Global Health Unit on Stillbirth and Neonatal Death:

You will play a crucial role in ensuring the successful delivery of the Unit programme, contributing your expertise and insights to make impactful strides in reducing stillbirth and neonatal death and supporting those affected.

Academic Leadership and Capacity Development:
Lead by example in academic excellence, fostering the growth of early career researchers through mentorship and support. Your leadership will contribute to the expansion and enrichment of our research community.


Key Responsibilities are (but not limited to):

Research:
You will initiate, develop, and deliver internationally excellent Maternal and Newborn Health research at LSTM.

Enhancing LSTM's profile in this domain, fostering innovative methodologies applicable to MNH research, and leading academics in developing cutting-edge capacities are integral parts.

Maintaining a track record of highly rated published research findings and assisting in LSTM's expansion of MNH research are focal points.

Crafting a clear vision and strategy for internationally excellent research that supports LSTM's sustainability and its subsidiary companies will be a key responsibility.


Teaching and Learning Support:

In teaching and learning, you will take responsibility for the strategy within the academic field, collaboratively ensuring quality standards, and leading innovative curriculum designs and teaching methodologies.

Introducing students to cutting-edge research and ensuring teaching aligns with LSTM's quality standards are core objectives.


External Representation/Partnership Working & Income Generation:You will strategically develop global partnerships and collaborations, generating grant income, and effectively representing LSTM's work both nationally and internationally. The ability to attract significant, prestigious funding and engage in complex negotiations for external partnerships is pivotal within this domain.


Continuing Professional Development:

You will continue to develop a personal reputation at an international level in terms of expertise, innovation, and delivering outcomes.

Maintaining a broad knowledge base in relevant research and scholarship fields helps ensure LSTM's teaching and research meet professional and innovative standards expected of a Higher Education Institution (HEI) of its nature.


Leadership & Management:
You will influence high-level collaborations, articulating, and delivering academic vision and leadership at an international level. Taking leadership roles in policy dialogues that effect change based on reliable research-led evidence is vital.

Effectively managing and mentoring a team, ensuring adherence to legal, health, safety, and quality assurance requirements, and managing resources for programme activities are key aspects of leadership and management within LSTM.


Ideally, you will be able to demonstrate:

  • Current registration as a midwife.
  • Track record of research publications and research funding commensurate with experience, in applied maternal and newborn health.
  • Experience of global health and participatory approaches.
  • Evidence of strategic leadership and management skills with the ability to inspire and motivate a wide range of staff and collaborators.
  • Proven experience of teaching and assessment in HEI, the ability to make a significant contribution to teaching and learning strategy.
