Description

We require an enthusiastic and well organised individual to work as a Bed Coordinator for GI Surgery, Haematology & Oncology & Urology and Gastroenterology at Leicester Royal Infirmary, Leicester General Hospital and Glenfield Hospital.

This position requires the post holder to co-ordinate and organise effective bed usage in an extremely fast moving environment.

The post holder will facilitate the admission of elective and emergency patients across all General Surgery and Surgical Specialties, gastroenterology, Haematology and Oncology at the LRI and General Surgery, Urology at the LGH site with HPB at Glenfield site.

The post holder will work independently, using their own initiative / judgment and without direct supervision.

This role is pivotal to the flow of patients within the Surgical and Surgical Specialties Departments and meeting the national waiting times for the Emergency Department, cancer and elective patients (This post has no direct budgetary responsibilities).

About the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust: )

  • Be responsible for the daytoday coordination of surgical and renal/urology admissions and discharges to the clinical areas in the Directorates contributing to the efficient team working within this process by liaising with the Operational Managers, Matrons, Duty Manager, Medical teams and Bed coordinator's cross site.
  • Manage all emergency admissions to the surgical day of surgery arrivals areas and main base wards with the Emergency Department and bed bureau to ensure that the national 4 hour waiting time target is achieved.
  • To liaise with senior management/medical staff to identify elective patients to be cancelled due to lack of beds/ facilities.
  • Organising the utilisation of extra beds and/or staffing in order to reduce the number of patient cancellations across the 2 directorates.
  • Using a variety of tools including Real Time Bed Management System ensure utilisation of beds within the Directorates is maximised.
  • Collate staffing figures over the course of the week to identify any problems that exist and ensure these are high lighted to the appropriate people.
  • Manage patients with infections by identifying availability of side rooms and escalating infection issues in wards were no side rooms are available.
