Prison experience can often lead to rapid career progression especially within education, research and management
Stringent training and regulations making it a safe place to work for healthcare professionals
Work within a multi-disciplinary team to deliver a nurse-led service and prevent hospital admissions
Undertake medication rounds, dispense controlled medication, attend emergency response situations, assess patients, undertake reception screening, and offer clinics such as triage, long-term conditions, suturing, wound care, ear irrigation, and sexual health
Run health promotion / harm-minimisation clinics in specific disease-related areas
Ensure that clinics run smoothly and meet national and local priorities and guidelines
Respond to medical emergencies as an emergency responder, co-ordinating care, and providing primary clinical care of a high standard to patients
Deliver a high standard of clinical care in the primary care, emergency care, harm minimisation, health promotion and occupational health remits of prison healthcare; Undertake initial and follow-up individual health assessments at reception and health screening, referring to appropriate guidelines
Assist the development of evidence-based nursing procedures / protocols in the prison setting
Identify shortfalls in stock levels / failure of equipment and liaise with the senior supervisor on duty to arrange replenishment
Must be registered on the NMC and must have a relevant qualification in nursing
