Description

Would you like to join an ideas-driven and collaborative team? Are you organised and proactive? We're looking for an Editorial Assistant to join Penguin General, within a team dedicated to publishing books on personal development, smart thinking, and economics, on a 6-month Fixed Term basis.

The opportunity

In this exciting role, the Editorial Assistant will be working closely with the Commissioning Editor within Penguin Business and will be responsible for the smooth running of the imprint, working closely with another Editorial Assistant.

The role involves plenty of administrative and editorial duties, which will include:

  • Working with the Publisher, Commissioning Editor, and the wider team to keep projects on critical paths and liaising with authors and agents during that process
  • Providing colleagues in teams such as Sales, Marketing, Publicity and Rights with relevant and uptodate material and prompting editors for materials
  • Managing the Publisher's diary and schedule
  • Organising meetings, keeping minutes, and managing book fair schedules
  • Populating and updating computer systems, including with invoicing and expenses data
  • Checking proof corrections, copywriting, researching cover briefs, sending out book proofs and contractual authors' copies
  • Dealing with general queries from authors and colleagues and carrying out other ad hoc team support when required.

What you'll bring

The role of an Editorial Assistant is varied and fast-paced, so you'll need exceptional personal organisation and time management skills.

You'll be juggling many priorities and projects at once so attention to detail is critical.

You'll also be working closely and collaboratively with colleagues across the business and with key external stakeholders, so you'll need to have great communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively to a wide range of people.

This is an entry level position and no prior experience in publishing is required but we are looking for someone who is inquisitive with a love of reading, and who is ready to be creative and innovative.
