University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust is a large organisation, based in the vibrant city of Birmingham, now covering four busy hospital sites and a community service.

This Adult Speech and Language Therapy position is a rotational post and will be based at Heartlands, Good Hope and Solihull hospital sites providing input to adult clients across in-patients, early supported discharge, ENT services and Solihull community.


Due internal promotion we are pleased to offer this excellent opportunity for a band 5 therapist to join our dynamic team and gain experience rotating through this broad spectrum of adult clinical caseloads and settings.

We have an established band 5 rotation program where there is the opportunity to work with communication, dysphagia, voice and head and neck cancer caseloads within both the hospital and community settings.

You will benefit from access to band 5 peer support, preceptorship and an established supervision structure to help you develop into your new role.

You will be working alongside specialist therapists who run voice clinics / FEES / Videofluoroscopy services with recent funding for new equipment to further develop these services.


You will be joining a large, enthusiastic and supportive therapy team with excellent training and development opportunities as well as a robust supervision and appraisal system.


Main duties, tasks & skills required:

In your rotational role you will work across our 3 hospital sites and will work alongside highly specialist staff and integrate into a variety of specialist multi-disciplinary teams.

The Trust provides a 7-day service. The post-holder will be required to participate in 7 day working rotas as required.

The post-holder must be a car driver in order to meet the essential travel requirements of the post.

Person specification:
Qualifications:


Essential:


  • Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification
  • Current registration with Health Care Professions Council
  • Registered Member of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists

Experience:


Essential:


  • Undergraduate clinical experience in relevant clinical areas
  • Competence in the management of communication disorders
  • Knowledge of assessment tools relevant to the client group
  • Knowledge of a range of appropriate therapeutic interventions (relevant to the client group)
  • Understanding of the roles of other professionals (relevant to the client group)
  • Awareness of the principles of clinical governance /audit
  • Awareness of communication, cultural and communicationimpairment issues of clients from ethnic minorities.
  • Sound knowledge of IT

Desirable:


  • Postgraduate experience in relevant clinical areas
